Took my SC off

In preparation for the turbo, I'm sad to say that I removed the Comptech SC. I really liked that thing and it woke up the engine. It was a good bang for the buck, but better things are coming. Italiacls will be the new owner of it this weekend. Congrats to him.

It's a step back to say the least, to be honest, it's not fun to drive at this point. the sound of the blower did have an intoxicating sound. I cant wait to see it on Italiacls's 01. He's got a bitchn ride and he will soon know why I have been hyping the "SC syndrome" to him.

I'll get pics of his car so he can post when the job is complete. He can also give you guys a report card on the install from my builder if anyone is contemplating having some work done through him in regards to NA 3.5 stroker, to turbo.

ThinJim,
How much that block for turbo cost you? Did you get the extra block or they work on the existing one? and what exactly was it done to it? I know pistons/rods are custom. Just curious on the block and price?

the block is relatively cheap, about 450.00, then the crank to go with it. Choose wisely.

The sleeves on the other hand, ... well, it was not cheap. It is state of the art installation and will surpass anything Darton Sleeves can throw at it. A solid deck sleeve is a must if your going to boost for extremley high output, sure you can throw some thicker iron sleeves in the cylinder's but the block is still going to "walk" which will cause the head gasket to fail, and kiss the rest good bye. A solid deck sleeve eliminates sleeve movement under dynamic load. The solid deck sleeve also provides more of an area for the head gasket to rest on and reduces the tendency to "walk". As you've seen in the pics, the block is "0" ringed, and to finish the seal off, I have head studs for additional clamping. (if anyone needs these, I can provide, otherwise, take the time to measure the block thread holes and measure the thickness of the head and have your own made)

If your just interested in a 3.5 with a SC then the t-sleeve is not needed and you can get away with using the stock sleeve that the block comes with. You could also use the stock forged steel rod, just have them polished and shot peened and it will be ok for the output of a 3.5 SC with IC. No need to spend a grand on aftermarket rods. I would use forged pistons though, that is a must.

forget price, it serves no purpose to say. the mdx and cl use the same block, but there is a couple of years that are different. it's the crank that makes it a 3.5, not the block.

You don't need the block. Just the crank, rods, and custom pistons (and obviously other hardware like rod bearings, etc.)

Gotcha. Still ThinJim, can you PM me the price for sleeves .
Say, if I got the block who would you send it to do the sleeves if you start all over again. And if 500whp+ target, is forged crank necessary and who can make it?

So where are you getting everything?? I need a J32A2 block which can be built to handle 750 HP and do so for road course duty.

For the block, crank, heads, we sourced from a local acura dealer here in S. Fla, a friend in the parts house. however, your in Hotlanta, so you could use the www.acuraautomotiveparts.org website for the block, their in the atlanta area as well, so you could just pick it up. I've used them a couple of times for some items and their less expensive than going directly to the dealer. just the basic block assembly is advertised at 467.00, no crank etc, includes caps.

we've done some R&R on some internal components and have found out some interesting things that we are going to keep close to the vest for now. look to mcamotorsports.com and give him a call. his name is mike

Keeping the good stuff to your self??

I don't think I will be starting with a bare block. I will try and find a wrecked CL-S6 as I also need the transaxle, harnesses, etc.

So, no way to find out about the stouter internals??

Something interesting on the horizon

Steve, Serge got his NEW J32A2 parts (except good used heads/manifold) through his friend in Chicago 'burbs who works at the dealership and saved at least 30-40% on prices. When he comes back next week you can ask him for the block and compare the price you can get .

Steve, are you going to use a 3.2 displacement? if so, in the very near future, my 3.2 longblock will be up for grabs, complete except for the injector base, intake but no injector bases. it will have about 16000 miles on it when removed.

yep, gonna keep the good stuff under raps for the moment

whatcha gonna put it in?

Yep, staying with 3.2L. Please drop me a note when you are selling that block as I will definitely be interested, get me a good price please. It'll be on a stand for a while during the build up and vehicle search. No problem on the injector base either as I can get that cheap.

I've found a transmission but they want $2000 for it. I'll be patient as I know a TL or AV6 6MT with surface soon too.

What is it going in, eek. Some may not understand this but it is for an NSX. The C-Series parts are becoming harder to find. Plus the transmission parts are getting up there. I plan on running the car at Road Atlanta so I know I will be breaking parts and want replacements as quickly as possible. Plus, being SOHC versus DOHC and 60 degree versus 90 degree the J32A2 should fit very well with room to fit a pair of GT28R turbos. The transaxles look nearly identical so fitment, etc. shouldn't be too bad.

Some will think this is blasphemous. But the fact remains that the J32A2 with headers makes about the same crank power as the NSX engine. The J32A2 makes more torque as well. The parts are more readily available, we've already shown the E-Manage can work with the factory J32A2 ECU to make power (and it hasn't been pushed) and the transaxle is being used on multiple platforms. This is making my decision easier as a 500 WHP NSX weighing in at 2800 lbs should be quite a ride. And one which I know the powertrain already!!

great idea and props for the determination to get it done. I think it's pretty wicked concept. Can't wait to see this once you get the motor put in and the TT setup. That's just sick.

Thanks, I do appreciate it. It'll be a while but the plans are under way. I am looking forward to this as it is basically one of those once-in-a-life-time projects.

Immediate boost response is crucial for a road car. The 1/4 mile not as much, but having to brake, turn, and then accelerate on a road course is a much better situation for 2 smaller turbos than 1 larger one.

I dunno, the J32A2 just stuck with me. I guess it was the top end pull it had when compared to the S4. Plus, I had been planning a project car and I know the J32A2 so well.

I had tossed around a few ideas including a '33 Ford Coupe with AWD and a Twin Turbo SB 350. But that wouldn't be that great for track duty.

I just love, always have, the NSX. Back in '90 when I purchased an '88 Prelude and then a year later picked up an '89 Legend Coupe, I enjoyed the Honda/Acura style and engineering. When I first saw the NSX in person was on a fall day in late '90 and I was in love.

From then on I knew I had to have one eventually.

Yes, one on each bank. The current plan is for Garrett GT28R's. I need to look at the charts for each to see if any changes are needed.

I'm glad to see you'll still be around to share what you learn through this new project.

Twin Turbo J32 in an NSX??!?!!? WTF!?!?!?! AWESOME!!!?!>@!

I might have to swing by on my way to Florida for a built transmission from Speed Distributors this spring/summer to sneak a peak!
