I'm looking for a early model, '91 - '95 with a blown engine or high mileage. Either way I will pull the engine and transmission. I'll also swap out all suspension bushings. The interior will also be altered with lighter seats, etc.

It won't be a numbers NSX nor do I care. It will be a car which I can drive to the office on occasion and take to the track on the weekend. I will get the paint refreshed but I won't worry if there is a ship or two. I will be focused on it performing.

For price, I recently saw a 100K+ mile '92 for low $20k's. I would like to hold out and find a car which will suit my needs for $15k - $20k.

I suspect the engine will just be on the stands by this summer. I don't have much time to dedicate; you remember how long it took to ship the IC.

But you are certainly welcome to swing by for a visit.

Man if I were in your situation I would have kept this entire thing under wraps until you actually had the motor completed. Then posted a thread with pics of the motor mounted on the stand asking "So, what'da think?" hehehe.

I needed to leverage some of the resources on this board. I already got Ramanan's input and when ThinJim posted about special parts I had to know.

I'd rather it not be a secret as the build might be interesting to watch.

The shock factor would be cool, but I also would like knowledgeable input. I expected negative posts on nsxprime.com but the one's I have received have been positive and helpful.

damn scalbert... thats an insane concept... sohc j32a2 in an nsx with twin turbo's. i guess it does make sense since you're so well versed in this engine

aren't the transmission, exhaust manifolds in different areas? i would imagine there'd have to be lots of custom work involved...

how much are you planning on buying an nsx for? im in the market for one and it seems like i'll have to shell about $30k for a 92-ish NSX in good condition.

good luck with this project... it'll be interesting to see the j32a2 perform in such a different car

Steve just don't let this happen:

I found this on the RSX forum. It just so happens that this dyno was done at MY DYNO SHOP!

I'm going to use the 6MT transaxle from the CL-S (could even be the new TL or AV6).

The rest of the exhaust plumbing will need to be made from scratch anyway so those worries are not relevant.

I would like to pick up one for under $20k. Good condition is not a concern as it will be re-done anyway. Most lower mileage one's in good condition command over $30k as you have seen.

I beleive I have seen it but will need to watch it in the morning; the twins will be awake in about five hours.

I've found a transmission but they want $2000 for it. I'll be patient as I know a TL or AV6 6MT with surface soon too.

What is it going in, eek. Some may not understand this but it is for an NSX. The C-Series parts are becoming harder to find. Plus the transmission parts are getting up there. I plan on running the car at Road Atlanta so I know I will be breaking parts and want replacements as quickly as possible. Plus, being SOHC versus DOHC and 60 degree versus 90 degree the J32A2 should fit very well with room to fit a pair of GT28R turbos. The transaxles look nearly identical so fitment, etc. shouldn't be too bad.

Some will think this is blasphemous. But the fact remains that the J32A2 with headers makes about the same crank power as the NSX engine. The J32A2 makes more torque as well. The parts are more readily available, we've already shown the E-Manage can work with the factory J32A2 ECU to make power (and it hasn't been pushed) and the transaxle is being used on multiple platforms. This is making my decision easier as a 500 WHP NSX weighing in at 2800 lbs should be quite a ride. And one which I know the powertrain already!!
I think it's a good idea and with the power to weight ratio, that car will fly. Not to mention that it is considerably cheaper to work on a j32 vs. c32 or c30, whatever the NSX has. Since your making it a road car, you can throw out the stock ecu and use a motec, or a simular unit, http://www.motec.com/ depends if you want some creature comforts, or just a bare bones rocket.

Actually, there are more parts for the nsx motor than the j32, but with that motor, you will pay. Toda racing has extensive parts for the NSX. http://www.todaracing.com/ you can buy a set of stroker rods for the nsx for 4000.00. ouch. compare that to the set i have that cost about 1000.00. I'll keep you posted on my engine i'll be taking out soon. It's in great shape.

forgot to say, I haven't done much checking, but if you go for a tranny from a 04TL 6spd, i'm not sure it will mate up to the j32a2 block. the TL is the j32a3 series. something to check into. again, i dont know.

I thought the 6-speed was virtually unchanged in the '04TL vs the '03 CL-S`

done a little preliminary search, and the clutch housing has a different part number for the tl as opposed to the cl. doesn''t mean it won't mate to the block, I just don't know. it would have to be compared side by side to be certain. dunno.

Please do, I'm looking forward to beginning the build. Got to get the Helm's manual's in for the CL (gave mine away) and for the NSX.

From what I recall, the transmissions are the same including the AV6 6MT. I beleive someone cross referenced the parts and they were all the same.
