Thinking of leasing a CLS
Thinking of leasing a CLS
Hi all, new to the message board! Thinking of leasing (and then purchasing at lease end) a '03 CLS with nav for $360/month after taxes. I think this is a good deal. Not too sure since the CL is discontinued....which brings me to one of my points for posting...should i be seriously concerned about that (e.g resale value, parts, etc...)? Now for some trivial questions....I want the rear spoiler, dealers wants $600/installed, will I save a sig amount if I go aftermarket? I would have to get it installed since Im no tool time girl....:P ..... Anyone here drive a green CLS? I swear I saw one at the dealership but cant seem to option it at acura.com. I want the parchment interior without having to purchase a white, red, or black car!! I am currently driving a '96 328is and love the interior/luxury of the CLS! The BMW is so blasse inside. I dont really drive my cars hard....do you think I will notice a sig diff in drive quality, good or bad, (yes I did test drive the CLS but didnt really have the heart to punch it with the dealer sitting next to me and odometer reading 12 miles!!) for an everyday commuter like myself who dips the right foot on occasion...or maybe a bit more often than that....hehehe...
Ok i guess Im whinning, so I'll post this for now...any 411 would be appreciated!!

welcome
you would probably be better off going with the factory spoiler, and having the dealer install it.
i don't think the cl-s comes in green, only the cl-p.
you will like the car, definately get the cl-s. will you be getting a 6 speed or auto?

yo, san francisco? shit, don't do the 6speed! The car is great no matter what others say...it's a nice car..for $360/month is a bit pricey...damn, for $99/month more, you can lease a porsche boxter S!
Anyway, there is no green CLS. On a TL, there is forest green, but not on a CLS. As for interior, you are stuck with whatever the exterior color is...
BUT after your lease is up, get some new Comptech Sway bars and springs! They make the CLS really niiiice
The thing about this car being discontinued makes this car even more rare
I wouldn't worry too much about it being gone...enjoy what you have now..and when your lease is up, choose another car!
Good luck!

If you know that you will buy the car at the end of the lease, then I would just go ahead and buy it now (if you can swing the monthly payment). Rates are super low right now and by the time you are buying out the lease, I can almost guarantee that they will be significantly higher. Just for comparisons sake...I leased a 2002 CL-S, non-nav, 12K miles per year, $1,500 cash due at signing for $360/month. With the CL being discontinued, you could probably get the dealer to work a pretty good deal for you.
360/month after taxes is not a good deal? hmmm... i thought it was a great deal for $1600 down. The buy out price at lease end will be wholesale. I figured, leasing would be safe in this instance because of the tranny issues and the car going out of production. If those two issues become negative, then at least I would be able to "give it up".
Mattg, I am looking for an auto, since I live in downtown SF.
DDT, I did a little comparison shopping...and I received lease prices from the said $360/month to $507. The reason I asked about the green CLS is because I could have sworn I saw one on the lot with the CLS badge...maybe Ive been hitting the "good stuff" too much...lol....kidding!
2fast, the $299 for those cars u mentioned are nice, but thats before taxes and options. By the time I load the car to the CLS standard features (let alone the 260 hp!!) I'll be paying $450+..I looked into them!
Bunnie, Im close to it! =)
As for buy vs lease....I am so confused!!!
Thanks all your input, really appreciated!

and $360 US for a lease is too much.. thats almost $600CDN. im paying only $100 more for my 60 month finance with a $1000 down.
wheres DBOX?.. hes gonna ask you to post a pic im sure..lolz..

I just leased an 03 cls 6 sp for 350 with taxes included. I'd tell you to go for it. A daily driver is not an investment. I try to maximize my ride for the lowest monthly payment with no upfront costs. Forget about big downpayments to lower your monthly payment. Do not buy. If the car does lose it's appeal over the next 39 mos you can walk away from it. If it becomes more collectible you can buy it out. I think it gives you the best of both worlds. For the style of the ride I wanted it's an excellent value. Try getting the G35 coupe for this kind of money - forget about it. I think you are being very smart about this. Good luck and happy driving.
Well before you buy the car, you should consider possibly taking our (the Bay Area peeps) cars for a test run to see if you like it. This way if you like to mod cars, then you can see how much potential the CL has or doesn't have and then go from there. We're having a meet...actually 2 of them coming up next month and the month after that. Here's one of them: www.bui4ever.com/meets/meets.htm
If you lease try to get somebody who really knows leases, like maybe an accountant or something, to check it out. There can be a lot of nasty surprises in some of them.
I'd definitely go with the auto in SF. Almost got killed there once in a stick when my wheels started spinning on a trolley track in the rain while I was stuck in traffic on one of those hills. Damn car was actually sliding backwards!
You'll love the car

You have to find the right dealer to negotiate with I paid 29200 (That is under invoice becuz I got a spoiler and moonroof wind deflector thrown in). So I did much better than the standard authorized lease by Acura for this vehicle. The dealers are getting ready for the 04's and may be willing to deal on a discontinued model. You have to work them a bit. My lease is a 39 mos with 12 ticks per year and 1500.00 out of pocket.
Lease with a down payment? Whats wrong with you people? Do you put a down payment for renting an apartment? No way !!
Those deals you see on newspaper (325i for $219/month, etc) have a crazy down payment.
Think on CERO down. Just pay inceptions and first payment.

Is the $1600 a down payment (cap cost reduction) or the total out of pocket due at signing? If the $1600 is total out of pocket, it should include the 1st payment, acquisition fee (bank fee), motor vehicle fees, and a refundable security deposit (if applicable). See if they will cap the bank fee and try to get the monthly payments under $380. As others have said, leases can get tricky. Is there a disposition fee at the end of the lease?
I will assume they said down paymant which adds all the inceptions and tax and .... yes you go it.
$380 - $390 will be a good payment for cero down, cero disposition fee and no security deposit. If you get under $380 with all these conditions you are lucky. So work that out and get the lease.

curious....how does the warranty on a lease work if the mileage agreed on is beyond the warranty mileage? eg. 15kmiles/yr on a 48 month lease....since acura warranty is 4yr/50k, for the rest of the 10k, im on my own although the car is still on lease?
if your purchase invoice does not include info about extended warranty coverage, you are screwed.

It all depends on the conditions.... how many months, miles per year, and especially how much down. $360 is not good if it's a 60 month lease.. you shouldn't lease for more than 39 months. 60 months is a long ass time! Also, work the deal on the total price of the car first,, don't tell them you want to lease until you work the finial price. Base the lease cost off the finial price
I got my 2002 CLS, NAVI, SPOILER....
$0 down, $0 out the door
15k miles per year for 39 months... not 60
$459.00 + tax

Personally I don't think it make sense to lease a car past its warranty period anyway.
$1600 down, 12k, 39 month

With Acura's warranty being 4years or 50K, you aren't going to have a coverage issue SHOULD the tranny fail. With that said, Acura had tranny problems with early '03 models. This has since been resolved (according to Acura).
Good choice in cars BTW. You will enjoy it.
