Tanabe exhaust

I have had my CL since 2006, and it is my weekend cruiser. I have always wanted to get a nice exhaust sytem. There are some of these on Ebay $800-$1000. I was aware of the Comptech, which I have the intake. But that exhaust looks to be discontinued. Anyone familiar with the Tanabe? I just don't know if I can justify spending that much. I also know a local muffler shop that does great work. I could entertain going there and having them do something. Thoughts?

thanks guys

I have the tanabe exhaust, been on the car 6-7 years. It's made in Japan with the highest quality materials with beautiful welds. Hence the price tag. There are some vids of how it sounds on YouTube. I personally think it sounds great, and have been told so by passengers and friends alike. Only issues I've had is the need to replace the gaskets every so often.

As far a getting something custom made at a muffler shop; there's going to be lots of variables in sound. Depending on what components you use and how big the pipe is. I'd be sure to add a resonator and mufflers to whatever exhaust I was having custom made or else you'll have excessive rasp and drone.
If you do plan to order the Tanabe email one of our sponsors XLR8 or heeltoeauto. They both carry it. I've used both stores with great experiences.

Ct muffler price?

Is $450 a fair price for a pair of Comptech mufflers (no carbon deposits or rust)?

Just paid $450 (shipping included). Crossing my fingers they're as clean as they look in the pics. Keeping it period correct comes at a price...

I gave them a prolonged bath, in a suitable container, with Evapo-rust:
Amazon.com: Evapo-Rust ER004 , The Original Super Safe Rust Remover, Water-based, Non-Toxic, Biodegradable, 32 oz: Automotive Amazon.com: Evapo-Rust ER004 , The Original Super Safe Rust Remover, Water-based, Non-Toxic, Biodegradable, 32 oz: Automotive
I used paper towels / cotton rags to 'wick' the Evapo-rust to areas that needed it due to the shallow depth of the container used. Let it soak for a minimum of what ever the directions state.

Then followed-up with a good going over using an inexpensive chrome polish like Turtle Wax:
Amazon.com: Turtle Wax T-280RA Chrome Polish & Rust Remover - 12 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: Turtle Wax T-280RA Chrome Polish & Rust Remover - 12 oz.: Automotive
I bought it at local car parts store and went to town.
The stainless used by the manufacturer is what made the difference, it was of very good quality!

Good Luck!

Considered Tanabe recently, but the piping is tiny for anything but stock. 60mm ( ~2 1/3") main pipe, split to 50mm in back (~2")

2.5 is closer to 63.5mm, which exhaust calcs will say roughly good for 230-240hp. But wait isn't that what most stock cls dyno?
