Switching from 800hp Supra to CL-S

Hey guys. I am condidering selling my impractical daily driver -- 1994 T66 Supra that put down 580 rwhp at 18 psi and 702 rwhp @28 psi to buy a CL or TL type S.

A few Qs -- does the CL and the TL have manual transmissions yet?

When will the comptec supercharger be out?

Anyone run NOS on their type S?

Anyone run agasint a S2000 or WRX? I test drove those cars too and they felt MUCH slower than the Acura.

I test drove a tiptronic CL-S and it felt stout. What do they dyno at? I love the looks. and practicality of the TL...just hope I could turn it into a 400 HP Supercharged low 13 sec car from it's current 260hp.

Any thoughts?

2003 has the 6psd. See the sticky post in the car talk forum.

As for slower than the S2000 or WRX, definitely. (if the S2000 has a driver that uses the WHOLE RPM band and is a good driver) The WRX has the weight advantage and with a good driver should have no problem.

MOst CL-S' run around a 14.8 stock in the quarter. Do a search on DYNO and you should find a few posts on what these cars have dyno'd at.

HOwever, I think anything will feel slower to you when your moving down from a 800HP Supra.

Keep the supra for racing purposes only. You'll regret selling it.

Seems like you want more practicality but not steer too far away from the speed and style. Consider these:

2003 Acura CL-S 6-speed (manuals can take more abuse and mods). Still FWD

2002 Mercedes C32 AMG (for a little more than a modded 400hp CL-S, a factory version can run low-13s out of the box and without usualy aftermarket mod/service/tuning quality issues)

2002 Audi S4 TT (not quite as stylish as Mercedes but AWD and turbos mean easy low-13s with few mods)

buy/drive a beater for 2 years and save moola for 2004 Mercedes E55 AMG, as fast as a BPU Supra or Viper GTS but in silent secure 4-door comfort. 476 hp and 516 lbs-feet torque from supercharged 5.5L V8 and full boost a bit above idle.

2003 Infiniti G35: a four-door all-motor Skyline pretty much with conceivable high-13s out of the box with the 6-speed manual. RWD!

Id say go wiht the cls, the inside is awesome, and youll have much more money to mod the car yourself, which it looks like youll enjoy doing.
