Suggestions, questions, thoughts... for a n00b

Hey everyone, long time reader first time poster. Just wanted to say that you guys have a rockn board here. Everyone, more or less, seem to be quite helpful. Place is looking good and im glad im part of it.

Ok, enough of the brown nosing... Heres my situation. Its simple, im looking to buy a new ride and im not sure on what to get.

First im leaving my first car which i bought waaaaaaay back in 94. Its a 92 Acura Integra which it just made its 320'000km and its still going strong. Well, besides the rust starting to kick in that is. BUt yes, im in now in hunt of a newer ride which i cant decide on what to get. My top 2 choices right now are; 03 CL TypeS or the 03 Accord 2dr V6.

Thoughts? Things to look out for when i look at the CL's? I would like to have the manual version, but they are sooooooo friggn hard to find over here in Toronto. Even the manual Accord is hard to find so it looks like the auto it will be unless i can get lucky.

Lastly, when it comes down to price, the best bang for the buk seem to be the 02 CL TypeS... Am i that much better off getting the 03's? Or the 02's just dandy. Im planning to spice up the exterior just a tad, so the visual diff will be nothing to worry about. HOw about this compared to the 03 3dr v6 accord? I know the CL has more power, but did the accord takes its place which has the better performance?

Your thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Mods, sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in.

Hope to talk to yeah soon...

Peace

The only think I could htink to look out for is the tranny...but that's if you go the automatic route.

In that case, there's a 100k warranty for the tranny of both cars, but if you buy a later year model car with fewer miles, you pretty much get a longer warranty for the time you own it.

Besides that, I had a cl-s ('01) with the auto tranny with no major problems (car was at 50k miles when i "lost" it, but still on first tranny with no signs of failure). A few minor niggling things (squeaks, rattles, but not many), but nothing to fret over when buying the car.

Hey man, thanks for the post!! Appreciate it!

Sorry, just catching up on the tranny thing... was it a wide spread recall? 98% chance that i will be buying through a dealership... Im hoping that the models here that they carry will have that problem resolved. Anyway of seeing if it was taken care of? Other than looking at the history papers?

Hmmm... im starting to have 2nd thoughts now. The last thing i want to do is buy this and then have the car's tranny go on me. Alot of the cars at this age are close to km limit for the warranty. Ugh... I wasnt expecting this at all. Gosh darn it...

Ok, while checking out the autotrader.ca ive only found a small handfull of manuals. What do you guys say about these specs and prices. Can i find a better deal or is this about right? Remember, CDN $$$

Much Appreciated!!

Prices usually vary from 20-25 for around 60-90k for the 03's.

I paid $21.6K for my 03CL-S from a dealer, it had 43K on it. They were asking 22K and that's all I could get them to take off. Another dealer was asking $22.9K for similiar mileage cars and would not budge one cent from the asking price. I've only had the car a few weeks but so far it's great. I do worry about the tranny but I'm under warranty until NOV 09 or I hit 100K so I'm not that worried.

Looks about right then... nice. Thanks for the heads up! Glad your liking it so far. Hopefully if the tranny does go it will be under the warranty. Maybe you should have it looked at anyhoo. To see if theres any ware and tear thats beginning. If so, i think Acura will replace it before its too late. If not, they will place on that little unit which will resolve the issue. I dunno... it maybe better to do that than to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

So far everything feels fine, I'm not seeing any signs the tranny is slipping. According to Owner Link, the recall or whatever they do for the tranny has been done so I should be ok there too. Good luck with your search for a nice CL, I'm very happy so far. I did test drive a new Accord V6 coupe and I have to say that was a nice ride also, but I liked the look and feel of the CL better. Maybe one day they'll start making this car again, it would be nice to see what a new CL would look like after the body style change in 04. I did consider a new TL also, but besides not really wanting 4 doors it was a little more than I wanted to pay. It is a lot of car for the money, probably one of the best values out there today, but I wanted to spend closer to 20K instead of 30K!

I think the problem with the AT isn't really fixable, it's a flaw in the design/construction of the transmission. If your tranny goes, then it's replaced by a rebuilt one, or a new one (from what I've read). There are members on the site that have gone through a few ATs. However, I think the percentage of people with this problem is very small, but who knows.

In my opinion, I think it'd be better to go with the 6-speed that you found.
