Stuff needed for Turbos

Sorry guy i would do a search but cox is really shitty during their conversion time so i cant search without waiting 2 hours

What are all of the parts that are needed to get a turbo installed in a CL-S

I have the money and will seriously do this, all i need is the info on what ill have to do in order to run a turbo successfully

thanks

Assuming you don't care at all how long your engine and drivetrain lasts, all you need is the turbo, blow-off valve, intake plumbing, exhaust manifold, new management, higher capacity injectors and fuel pump. It'll probably last all of 3 months.

Supposing you do care:

First, you need an engine block strong enough for forced induction. If not, it needs to pinned, and accessorized with a BlockGuard and/or a reinforced girdle.

Secondly, you need a crankshaft strong enough for forced induction. For NA-specific Honda engines, that probably means a new crankshaft.

Third, you need conrods strong enough for forced induction. Carillo makes some popular ones.

Fourth, you want to lower Honda's famously high NA compression ratio. Whereas the cheap way is a thicker head gasket, the real way is to use aftermarket lower-compression-ratio pistons, which both offers increased strength and allows the use of better rings.

Fifth, you want to make your your tranny doesn't detonate. That means sending the unit to Level Ten and getting all the clutches (yes, an auto has clutches, in multiples) redone. You'll likely invest in a upgraded torque converter, and I don't know if they've got anything to deal with the bushing disintegration issue.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, BTW.

Considering that the IS300 comes with a block/head/crankshaft designed for high-boost forced-induction, and a tranny proven good for at least 300hp, very few people have gotten the car turboed, and only some have gotten it SCed. There's a rational reason for that, and even more rational ones for the fact that nobody has yet to bother to try to turbo a CL. You'd be better off finding a decent used Supra, or a Audi S4.

Yeah, stuff needed? A different car. Face it our car just wasn't designed for high-tech dragging. The most you are probably looking at is 375-400hp at the crank, MAYBE. And that is w/heads, SC,CAI,RES,Pulleys,V-afc and then you would have to do mods to the tranny. If you are determined and you have a lot of cash you could always do an engine swap. See what would fit and go from there.

Let's suppose someone only had a CL-P. They have a lower compression, and if the boost was mild, it would only equal the output of a typeS. There are hundreds of Civics, and Accords running around with reliable turbo setups on stock engines...are their motors stronger than ours? I certainly hope not.

Yes, but I was answering mrnokio's inquiry, who has a CL-S.

You're right, though. You shouldn't have any problem with the bottom-end if all you wanted was to take a CL-P to a CL-S. But OTOH, why not get a CL-S in the first place, or if you already have a CL-P, sell it for the CL-S? Both would be infinitely more practical.

There are?

There's no question about the "hundreds of" part, but I beg to differ with the "reliable" part. And correct me if I'm wrong, but blowing up a J32A2 is an entirely different financial proposition than blowing a B16A. And we haven't even started about the tranny.

There are many reliable Accords and Civics that have a SC or Turbo. I Just got my CLS and still have my Accord and though I have not done eather on it I have spent many hours on bords talking about turbos. Yes the F23A1, F22A1, H23A1, and H22A1 can take a turbo reliably. taking that I don't see anyreason that the CL's engine could not take it. I don't think they can nor can the CL's engine take more then 8psi on a eveyday basis and maybe up to 12 every onece in a while. Before the CL and I am still considering going to a blown H22 in my accord. The tranny would probably have to go to Level 10 but maybe not. IT all would depend on myanythings, I don't know much about the Cl other then about it's engine so I don't know the specifics of it's tranny

Thanks!!!

Thank you DtEW

But if our cars can't handle a damn turbo, how are we supposed to pull off the comptech SC...aren't the same things applicable?

Yes, it'll be a wait and see thing with the comptech SC. Apparently the guys at level10 have said the physical tranny is strong, whatever the hell that means. Upgrade to the 6 speed and then add the turbos. YOu will have serious ass kicking machine!
