Starter

This was probably posted before but does anyone here have a remote starter and about how much did it cost? Also, I remember the dealer saying something about an alarm that you could schedule to start your car daily at a certain time or start every day if you're out of town. Has anyone else heard of this?

Ya I got mine like the day after I got my car. You should have seen the guys at the install place, they were drooling all over the car. Anyways, it works great, with the solaris you have the added security of two immobilizers. One thing I recommend that you do is get a uncut key from the dealer that is programmed for your car becuase they need to use it for the alarm. Basically it sits under the dash so the alarm can send the signal for you. My alarm alone cost 545, and the install was around 300.

One more thing, make sure they install it right. I had to take it back three times becuase they didn't intergrate it with the factory alarm.

Oh yeah I forgot the key sent out a signal for you when you start the car. For some reason I always thought that was a gimmick. Thanks for the info. Its a little steep but I think it'll be worth it.

I think the main reason the install was so steep was becuase it took them close to 9 hours or so to install it.

i went to a local installer here in town about getting the viper 550esp installed with remote start, and the dumbass told me that i would have to leave the key in my ignition at all times for the remote start to work. i said, isn't there a way around it and he simply replied, NO.

i got a viper esp 550... you don't need to leave the key in the ignition. you have to buy another component ($50) that houses the key (i think). i used my second valet key. anyway, i think total for the alarm and that extra thing was $350. i had it installed by my friend and it took him about 3 hrs.

I have the Viper 550 got it installed last night only4 hours I gave him my valet Key and he shaved one side so it could never be used in the ignition.
I paid 350 for the alarm, 50 for the imobilizer and 50 for the install so I was out the door for 450. both alarms are intergrated I have to go back and have them add the trunk open to my new key fob. all and all I am satisfied so far. I also got an extended range antenna <ap> so I can start the car from inside my appt without going to the door or anything.

Got a couple questions...

How does the viper and clifford work with the factory keyfob/doorlocks?

Do you need a new keyfob altogether? Or two seperate ones? do they wire right to the battery? (cut the battery = no alarm?)

The Intrusion alarm that came with the car is still in tact it will go off if the doors are locked and someone breaks in an opens the door. The minute some shocks the car the viper will go off. the ignition kill from the factory is still in place so if the viper fails the car cant be started. if the factory fails the viper also has a kill the car cant be started. if they dont have a coded key the car cant be started. Now heres the kicker, if you dont have the installer wire the trunk to open on the key fob that comes with the viper u can open the trunk and the viper will go off the factory will not. Basically you can "86" you original keyFob cause proper installation of the viper will operate both alarms but the factory keyfob will hnot operate the viper. so you have to atleast use the viper key fob.
Hope this helps please excuse the <sp>

There is one problem with the viper intergration with the factory alarm - if you manage to hit the master door unlock factory alarm is designed to turn off, and it will deactivate the viper also. There are many ways to get to the master unlock without breaking windows so you be a judge if its a good idea to integrate a shock sensor over the factory alarm.

I think the better solution is to install a full function alarm with its own immobilizer and keep factory alarm off or have two alarms on

If you still want to install viper as an addon to the factory alarm a good idea would be to get an optional Sound Sensor in addition to a shock sensor.
