Spring install tomorrow

Finally got someone who says that they will install the H&R OE Sport springs at a decent price. I drop off the car tomorrow and in advance I measured the height from floor to edge of wheel well tonight.

LF 27 1/2 inches
RF 27 7/8 inches

LR 27 1/2 inches
RR 27 5/8 inches

Assuming that I get it done on schedule, I plan to measure again tomorrow night and then again in about a week. More to follow

Good luck! My dealer charges an hour per spring to install!, and $80 to balance after. they charge $95 an hour labor. How can dealers justify these prices. I guess people are paying it. No way would I pay almost $500 to install springs that already cost me about $250 anyway.
Still looking for a cheap installs for my springs and icebox.

Its a local shop, H & S Kustoms and the owner estimated 200 for installation. He doesnt do alignments, so that would be another 50-60. Installing springs is one of his specialties; most other places either didnt want to touch the work or charged in the range of 400-500, not including alignment.

Your front is gonna go down 1 inch and your back is gonna be like 1.5 inch lower. Once the springs settle, the front go down a lil bit more.

i'm curious about the changes the springs make. i currently like the handling of my stock 6-speed springs but the ride is too harsh. i'm considering the stock CL-P springs/struts.

after you have them installed please let us know if the ride is softer, the same, or firmer.

or if this info exists elsewhere in the site please point me to it.

thanks.

I got the springs from Tire Rack online (www.tirerack.com) in Newark, DE. They were 156 plus shipping---think the total was 168 delivered to my house in PA, just outside Philly. If you order from Tire Rack you need to indicate its for a 2002 Honda Accord coupe---same suspension configuration as the CL----Tire Rack doesn't list the H&R OE sport springs as available for either the TL or CL, but does stock them for the Accord. This price is pretty close to the best, I've found. There were some firms that had these springs for a little less, but were generally on the west coast so the shipping cost would probably have eaten the savings.

I did take some before pix and hope to get the after pix tonight or tomorrow. I just talked to the guy and the front ones are on; he's taking out the rear seat to get to the rear ones and that's taking a little more time that he estimated. He indicated that he will have it done today though. Will let you know how the ride is, although from what I've heard on here, it shouldnt be a lot different than stock in terms of firmness. For more info, just do a search on H&R Sport Springs, and you'll come up with a bunch of hits from other owners of them as well as some pretty good pix.

Got the car back tonight---its a nice look, but needs to drop more in the front. Only showing about 1/2 inch drop in front and an inch drop in back. Measurements are:

LF 27 1/2
RF 27 3/8

LR 26 5/8
RR 26 3/4

Hope to do some pics tomorrow and post

these springs make a major difference in handling and ride---more solid and controlled, less dive under braking; if only Acura had springs like these and a 6spd on the car when it first sold in 2000 maybe it wouldnt have ended production.....

What's up with installing the OE's? Seems like a few people have gotten them lately. Any reason why you don't want more of a drop? I thought the OEs were pretty close to stock..

He has the OE Sport springs. Not the mid-level Sport springs. The OE drop is less than an inch front and rear.

I can't believe dealers are charging $95 an hour for things like this!!

My dealer only charges $65 an hour for performance installations (headers, springs, exhaust, etc)

The cost of living is alot higher here than it is in PA too. If people are paying $95/hour they are crazy. Why would you get it done at the dealer if you could get it done cheaper somewhere else!?!

Thank god my dealer likes to stay competitive with other shops.

For me the modest drop is fine--it really is noticeable but doesnt appear radical. I also didnt want to end up with a harsh, less comfortable ride, which many have indicated is what happens with a deeper drop. Im sure the Comptech springs would have been fine too, but these were on the order of 100 dollars less and that worked for me.
