speedometer vtec color change?

i was looking at vvti videos on youtube and i ran into this. yes, its a corolla but thats besides the point. i really love the color change when it hits vvti. has anyone thought about or done this to our cars? it think its pretty cool. it'd would be a good mod to do and i'd do it to my car if someone figured it out.

would need to locate an electrical signal that is sent at that moment of vtec. you can tap off that to use the signal to signal the gauge color change. i believe i'm on the right track but i'm no electrical engineer.

buy a lexus, and you get two color rings that come up under the tack and speedo. the first rings are orange which can be set at any mph or rpm then they will stay on after those parameters are hit. the orange ring turns to a red ring when you hit 100mph and the red ring on the tack comes on right before the rev limiter.

amyways it's pretty neet and props to the guy that made it.

Neat. Could be kind of hard to do. You would need to solder in LCDs that are multi-color (all in the same unit). As distortedolskool said, there's a wire from the vtec solenoid that you can use to check when its on..

You could tap off the tach so when the rpm that vtec engages on our car it could be used as a signal to light up. I Dunno just a thought from my electronics side

sorry for a double post, but if you google vtec light you'll come up with links suggesting that you would wire it to the solenoid.

if you have an auto the light does nothing. if you have a manual the light does nothing unless it changes at the set shift point.

still yes it does look cool.

What's the point? Do you really want the gauges to be flashing different colors every time you shift?

i wouldn't want it everytime i shift either. that would become really annoying. but i drive pretty chill so i don't hit v-tec as often. it would be pretty cool if someone figured it out. i've been thinking about tapping the vtec selenoid?

Connecting to the ECU for the VTEC input is easy. It's installing different color bulbs/leds and making it look good that would take some serious work.

I've contacted Sean who is the owner of that site ledmod.com

He's willing to work on it. I don't mind sending a spare gauge cluster, but he wants an electrical diagram for the gauge. ANyone know where I can find it?

And I just want to see how many people will be interested in something like this? I'm trying to ask him to make a kit. Not just a custom one for me. Thanks.

yeah if the guy at ledmod comes back with something attractive I and not really $$$$$$$$$ I would get one. I really like some of the stuff he has done on his site, they look much better than some of the led gauge mods people on here have done themselves.

Thats actually kinda got some potential. I mean it would be real easy to put a switch on the sportshift gate. I wouldn't go as far as to do the whole dash but having your gauges go entirely from blue to red would be pretty sick. hmm.....
