So my muffler fell off...

Last night my right muffler fell off while driving. No biggie, it broke off at the weld, easy fix. No damage to it at all.

Only thing is that even though my exhaust setup is aftermarket it is pretty quiet. It's not bad but not "sporty" enough i guess.

Now as I drive around with one muffler missing OMG it sounds nice. It has a G35 sound to it and i'm liking it, I almost dont want to put it back on lol.

So, out of curiosity.. is it possible to just run straight pipes with no mufflers? Any negative to this? Anyone have this setup? How about inspection time? Will the numbers be thrown off? or would the car still pass?

Sorry for the noob questions, this isn't my forte...just curios really not really thinking i'd do this. The sound is just addicting...

I don't think the car will pass, but it will not hurt the car running with no mufflers.

in texas it will not pass due to mufflers being on the visual checklist for the inspection. however i have been running dumps for awhile now.

hey WILL, do you think this could be due to the debacle that happened in the coffee parking lot?

yes

I noticed that my muffler on the right was a bit higher than the left side after the accident. Im thinking it cracked at the seam and I didn't notice.

any chance you can get insurrance to fix it since it was from the accident, without having to file again?

It was still attached to the rubber hanger thing so I never lost it, it just bounced around on the ground a bit. I pulled over, pulled it off the rubber and threw it in my trunk.

As far as welding it back on, it costs about that. I've used him before for other cars and he's pretty cheap. Its a little mom and pop shop. All he would have to do it hang it back up and do a quick 5 minute weld and it's good as new.

click on the link right above the video.

from my knowledge without mufflers the exhaust won't create enough back pressure resulting in loss of torque. (my personal knowledge) correct me if i'm wrong xperts

^^ That may be true. I thought it was in my head but it feels like it doesn't have as quick pickup from a dead stop as it did before with the missing muffler.

Are the CLs in those videos at WOT? If so, they look painfully slow.

And it isn't in your head, without that bit of backpressure, you do lose some bottom end torque.
