Side-airbag light goes on

Anyone ever had this issue:

My friends opens my passenger window and leans out. As he does that, the side-airbag light goes on. WTF. Repetable situation, because he did it again and the light went on again. Might have to talk to a dealer. Any ideas anyone?

aheahe, BigPimp.....that's supposed to happen It's a warning to say that the passenger is on the airbag and it won't deploy if you get hit A warning system Supposed to be there for road trips when the passenger might fall asleep and lean the wrong way. Pretty cool huh?

yeah, it's a neat feature but not cool that it is staying on. She must have leaned on it so now the sensor is stuck in the active position. Might want to give that side of the seat a rub down and see if you can deactivate it.....otherwise off o the dealer

and this is apparently also the reason the passenger-side seat heater only warms the butt and not the butt and back like the driver's side does. apparently the heater element interferes with the operation of the sensor that controls the shut-off function.

OH MAN, this is all starting to make some sense now. I wonder if the heated seat messed up some sheit cuz my little girly had it on almost the whole way up to NY.

I will have to investigate this at lunch.

i haven't had that problem but never been on a trip for an extended period of time with the passenger leaning all the way to the side so you'll have to let us know.

Wa wa wait a minute here......hold on.

The seat heater should heat the backpart as well, not just the seat itself, cause I dont know if mine does that. I dont know how it works on the passenger side. What the deal?

check the owner's manual: the seat heater heats the entire seat on the driver's side, but only the bottom cushion on the passenger side.

Zapata, my thanks to you sir

I have to get these seat belts looked at, I think that was the problem because I move the seat foward and repositioned the squished seat belt and moved the seat back again. The light went out!! WooHoo

I guess everything has its reasons on these cars.

So, as final word on this issue and a possible addition to"CHOD's" FAQ section, check those seat belts and anything else jambed between the side air bag panel and the door because the little light will tell ya all WHATS SUP!

The same thing happens happens if you put a briefcase on the seat or something not equally distributed in weight across the seat. Acura's answer to the airbag deploymen injuries of the 90's. The passenger seat only warms the bottom, and the driver gets heat up the lower back about half way.

Haven't turned them on this year yet. Still fairly warm and the one freezing day we had, I was in Las Vegas.

another thing about this airbag light. i think if the passenger is less than 80lbs ( i think that's what it is), the light will also come on. i guess because of the weight issue and the impact of the airbag on someone that light. anway, i took my neice for a drive and noticed that the passenger airbag light wouldn't go off. so i had to have her sit on the back seat.
