Should I go with warrantygold.com?

I am very close to purchasing Warranty Gold Extended warranty:

I have 2001 CLS, with 21500 miles.
7yr/100K coverage ( note 7 year start from the day I purchase warranty, not from date I bought the car ).

It will cost me aroud $925+tax.
With $50 deductable.

Company seems to be reliable and I called my accura dealer, he said they will honor this warranty.

On the other hand, cheapest acura warranty will cost $1000(7yr/100K), and the only problem its 7 years starting from day I purchased the car... Which will give me only 5 years to drive 80K miles... which is reasonable assuming I will drive 16K miles a year.... right now I drive 10K miles a year, but this could change if i get new job... you never know.

I had the same problem, so I went with Warranty Gold since the Dealer would honor the warranty, and I got more time and mileage from them - 5 years, 100K miles from the time I purchased the warranty, so my car is covered unitl the year 2007 and/or 149,800 miles! Whichever comes first!

I say go for it!

Are you sure it's a extra 100k miles and not up to 100k miles???

from their web page

""also, for New Vehicles (still under factory warranty), the term of coverage expires according to the time and/or mileage of the plan selected, whichever occurs first. For example, if you purchase a 7 year / 100,000 mile vehicle service contract from Warranty Gold today, it will expire 7 years from today, or when the vehicle's odometer reaches 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. This will give you more time than with other vehicle service contracts, which determine expiration based upon the vehicle's in-service date. (Only valid for contracts purchased on or after March 1, 2000.) ""

I would only go with a Honda/Acura warranty.
How good is that 150,000-mile warranty going to be if that company goes bankrupt next year?

Pretty much when your odometer riches 100K miles no matter when you buy it... but the 7 year starts from time you buy warranty... which is better, cause Acura's 7yr starts from Nov 2000 ( when I bought the car )

I have good confidence for this company being in business.
For all you know, due to the tranny problems or somethign else Acura can go out from business.

You might wana read this, their funds are re-insured twice.

Warranty Gold submits actuarily required funds to a third-party administrator, which sets up "trust reserves". These reserves are used to pay for claims.

Warranty Gold's claim reserve is reinsured to offer you, the consumer, the ultimate in protection. Our Administrator reinsures our Trust Reserves twice to adequately cover all claims today and tomorrow. The insurer that backs our contracts is "A-" (Excellent) rated and the reinsurer is "A" (Excellent) rated by A.M. Best. Your Warranty Gold service contract is absolutely reliable and secure

Actually, I just found out that in state of NJ I don't have to pay sales tax on purchase of the warranty, but have to pay 6% tax on all the repairs??? Is this normal, or some kind of a scam?

I have WarrantyGold plan also - no problems yet getting claims paid. I held out for $0 deductible and they came through for same price as plan with $50 deductible. 4yr/48000 on a '97 2.2CL with 40000 miles.

Have you ever used them to claim warranty repair?
Or you just have coverage with them.

There was a thread about this a few months ago and I remember a dealer or someone who knew a service manager said they frowned on these “aftermarket” policies.

Something about all claims were paid by credit card to the dealer and they always disputed the labor rates and part costs that the dealer was charging.
Other dealers said they wouldn’t release the car until the owner verified funds were available or something like that because they never knew if they were going to get paid or not.
Do a search. It should show up somewhere.

I still say stay with a certified Acura-care warranty.
I plan on buying a 100K one before my factory policy runs out.

I think the 6-Speed policy should be cheaper so we don’t have to pay for all those broken SLUSH-BOXES.

ive heard horror storries about these aftermarket warranties making you use the parts they supply...there was a guy on clubGP that had warrantygold and they insisted that they supply the replacement tranny to the dealer where the service was getting done, come to find out that the tranny they supplied was for a grand prix GT not a GTP so they had to locate yet another tranny....this one they found was for a GTP but it was USED!! not refurbished, just USED...just pulled off a junk car....because warrantygold was too cheap to let the dealer just get one from their supplier...

I have made a claim. First was denied because mechanic said my window problem (stopping when rolling up) was due to rails not being greased. The most recent claim was for the bad regulator that should have been replaced the first time (did not use same mechanic). Total was $375. Get this, part from Acura was $167 - part cost on receipt was $254. Certainly the mechanic could get the regulator cheaper (discount) than the normal Joe, yet they marked it up $87. If I was paying anythin out of pocket I would have raised a $hit fit.

REALLY??
I specificly asked customer service of warranty gold, and they said that in case of transmission failure they will pay for OEM part of whatever available at the dealer.

Acura warranty is actually less years, 7 years starts from time I bought the car ( 2 years ago). So I am actually getting only 5 years of coverage from now and can only drive extra 79K miles in 5 years... I am not sure if I can drive that many miles in 5 years.... sure, i never know, i could drive more or less... but so faw i have been driving 10K miles a year.

no joke dude, i dont have a link to the thread but it was about 2-3 months ago, poor guy had his car in the shop for like 4 weeks cause warrantygold wouldnt let the dealer use their supplier for a new tranny, otherwise he couldve had his car back in a matter of days...i think they made him use the used tranny from what i remember and said that if THAT one fails, theyd just keep replacing it....but still, a used tranny?? thats like trading a lump of shit for a lump of shit...im not sure if thats common practice with them, but its definately happend in that case.

Wouldn't you think that Acura warranty would play the same tricks with you so they can cut costs?

We know that today, they give you rebuilt transmission under warranty ( why? to cut costs ).
Soon, they might be giving you used trannies?!
Ah, i don't know... its a tough choice....
Acura warranty is more money and less years.... I need to think about it.

The best thing you can do is buy the best extended warranty you can get from Acura. I got a bumper to bumper extended warranty from Acura. The next best thing is to get the best aftermarket extended warranty you can afford. Go on line and research the company thru Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office of your state. This will cut the odds down of the company going out or business or bankrupt before your warranty is up. Most importantly, read your contract before signing. You don't want to be surprised with deductables and shit that is not covered.

I have had Warrnty Gold on numerous cars dating back to 1999. They are fine to work with and the best part is.. you can goto ANY service place. Not just your Acura dealer. So.. if there is a mechanic you trust more, you can go there.

In addition, you dont HAVE to use OEM parts. You could use upgraded parts as well.

I now have a 5 year / 75k mile $0 ded. plan on my Corvette and just had it in for a alternator. No problems whatsoever. They covered everything relating.. alternator, idler, etc.. only thing they didnt want to over was the belt.. which is understandable I guess.

I dunno about other aftermarket plans, but Warrnaty Gold is top notch.. plus.. you can negotiate your price.. dont settle for what they quote you.

We just got a free extension to 7years/100k on the tranny, so if the tranny was the reason you were considering getting an extended warranty, no need.
