Shortram

Hey all, i know there have been a bunch of threads about intakes. but lots of people seem to hate the shortram and claim that you can even lose power? is that true? im looking for an increase in sound...nothing highpitched and ricey. And maybe a little performance as well but if it means to sacrifice some power..then no. Wat do you thinK?

CAI (Cold Air Intake) is the way to go...here are some options

Comptech Icebox - Proven to net the most hp. Downside = not much of a change in sound, and it looks damn near stock. I mean, you will get a bit of a deeper note to the throttle, but not a significant change. This seems to be the favored.

AEM - Just about the same power gain as the CT Icebox. Yet, when flooring it, this thing fucking roars in VTEC and sounds damn mean. If that's your kind of thing...go with this.

Injen - Same as AEM, just personal preference.

the reason shortram intake was made was because the cold air intakes didnt perform well enough. i know most ppl say cold air intake is better but i believe shortram is. they say its been proven on dynos that cai put out more power but wen dey dyno it the car isnt even moving at all. short ram gets its power from wen the car is goin and all the air is being shoved into the hood of the car. also the piping for the shortram is shorter in length than the cai is so there is some loss in power b/c of the length the air has to travel. oh and also on an average sunny day w/average temps the blacktop floors are 10 degrees hotter than it is in the engine bay and the the cai is located on the bottom of the car close to the floor as where short ram is all in the engine bay(juss something to think about). short ram does tend to b more louder the cai and usually b/c its shorter and i believe the piping is wider as well? i myself woulda got shortram but dey didnt make ne for a type s....

i had a short ram, it sounded good, it looked good, it was cheap, and i felt noticable power gains,

untill the thing broke off my car...

not sure why or how it happened, but i poped the hood after a weird noise and found the thing broken, thank god nothing got in that hole! I just ordered an ice box and i think its the better option.

your not going to gain a hole bunch of HP with either kind of intake, though you will get more with the CAI or Icebox. If money is an issue either, get a SRI or just remove your intake resonator and get a K&N filter...I and many others think this is a very good option, and you are only out the cost of the filter

If money isnt an issue, then get the AEM V2 if you have a CL-P or a regular CAI - because you want some more sound.

THanks for all the suggestions everybody. to ousig..im not great with cars wheres the resonator located and is it dangerous or harmful to the engine if i do? would acura guys try to void my warrantee if they notice its missing?

And V2 is located in the engine bay correct? as opposed to behind the front bumper like CAIs..

The resinator is just a goofy plastic box in your bumper that minimizes the intake howl of the engine.

If you want LOUD, throw a short ram similar to the above in there. I used to seriously scare the crap out of people because they wouldn't expect it

Some people say the drawback is during engine idle or when you turn the engine off you will get a hissing noise. Some say that the sound is annoying, I personally like the sound.

PS: putting a short ram on will decrease your mileage. It decreases your mileage because you always gas the car!

Alright, the intake resonator basically is a muffler for the intake...In other words, makes your car very quiet. You have to remove it to install any aftermarket intake. here are the instructions with pictures to help you visualize it better...

http://www.abunchofcars.com/diy_page.../resonator.htm

There is nothing to worry about if you remove it - no warranty issues or engine problems. You will free up some HP (no dyno proof, but my butt dyno doesnt lie!), and you will get a nice sound - similar to a CAI, but not as loud. I was going to get a CAI, but I decided to try that first - I loved the sound so I saved my money and got headers instead.

The V2 has the filter down behind the bumper just like any other CAI. The only difference is the size of the pipe - supposed to give better airflow.

the filter is in the engine bay, but farther away than a short ram would put it

Hmmm, it seems from their website the design is similar to the CAI, but I did read that some V2's arent as long as a CAI...

I'm pretty sure the V2 is the the reg AEM. The filter will sit right behind the road lamps.

yup, you take it out and thats it...other than putting the bumper back on. It is real easy to take off also, but another set of hands would be helpfull.
