Ebay Intake

I'm thinking about ordering this ebay intake, I'm going cheap since it's just for sound and I also know the intakes for the TL have no performance gain. What I am wondering is if this intake this intake would be more restrictive than the stock box. I did some searching and found the throttle body to be 65mm (2.56")? This ebay intake states 70mm(2.75") piping so I shouldnt be at a lost right? I just wanted to confirm this and well as see any other thoughts before I pull the trigger.

if you're going with a short ram it's not going to help performance at all. in fact it may even decrease it due to the placement of the filter. although any gains or losses should be pretty negligible

keep the stock intake imo - like paperboy said, gains are negligible

I'm not doing it for the gains though it's mostly for the sound, I know our cars don't benefit much at all from an intake. To be honest losing 1-3HP because of the warmer air is worth the much better sound and possible throttle response for me, it makes the car that much more enjoyable hearing it roar when you get on it, now if the loss is much greater than that I might have to reconsider but if it really is around 1-3HP I really don't mind since that is a negligible difference.

The stock intake is already restricted. Just delete the resonator on the stock intake if you want sound.

Would just deleting the resonator be as loud as a short ram intake?

Lol I'd be crazy to spend that much on an intake that has no gains, the most I'd be willing to spend is about $80 for an eBay intake and a good filter. I guess I'll just try the resonator delete this weekend, was just thinking it would be nice to only remove the bumper once since I have a feeling the $55 eBay intake would be a lot louder than just the resonator delete.

Wait if I remove the bumper the first time to remove the resonator, would I have to remove it again to install the short ram or at that point would I be able to remove the stock airbox without having to remove the bumper again?

I bought a similar one but it's a true cold air, has a second pipe and the filter is in the bumper, I think it was $75 shipped. No power gains but it sounds really nice. I wouldn't spend the cash on a brand name one but I like the look instead of black plastic everywhere under the hood. The short one will hurt performance by sucking in hot air.

one like this?

Did you do the resonator delete before you got it?

And do you think it would really hurt performance a substantial amount or would it actually just be negligible.

Save your money. Spend it on the resonator or any exhaust mods for sound. You can just diy the stock intake and get better performance and not spend a dime.

Yup same thing except silver. The I keep saying I'm gonna throw a better filter on but never got around to it yet. As long as you don't go through any deep water you're good. Didn't try the resonator delete, went straight to that. Weighs less, looks cleaner, who knows maybe 2HP at WOT. I've had it on almost 2 years with zero issues. I did it before my exhaust mods, makes a huge difference in sound.

I do plan on doing the exhaust mods, as far as which one first I'm leaning towards the intake. My CL-S6 roars compared to the TL which engine wise is extremely quiet, at first I was thinking it was because of the type-s exhaust on the CL but recently it occurred to me that it's actually coming from my intake on the CL not the exhaust which is why I rather do the intake on the TL first since I love the roar. At $55 it's really not too much

Ok cool, great to know you got something similar and had no problems with it, now I just have to decide between the 2 since in theory the short ram version should be louder and have better throttle response but I would lose some power because of the warmer air. Nice to know there really was a huge difference in sound

I would honestly say the $55 one would hurt performance, noise only. The $75 option will more or less not make a difference and have the sound, definitely don't bother with the short ram. It doesn't really gain power, just stops you from losing as much power from heat soak since the intake is outside of the engine bay. While you're at it I'd do the throttle body coolant bypass, takes about a minute to do while you have the intake off.

Its down to owner preference. I loved my ram intake and the sound it made until I saw an AT TL silently blast past me. I always thought my car would be quicker but I was mistaken. To me that meant a lot so I decided to stop messing around and improve over stock. Car drives great now but there's more I can do. But it took me a while to get to that stage. I don't regret it but I do know that performance now comes first.

It's been dyno proven on a number of cars that SRI's suck, and CAI's do nothing. Stock intakes perform the same if not better than CAI's.
The only measurable increase in HP was when the filter was located outside the car, or had a direct feed. And even at that it was only 2-4hp which is negligible.
