Shift Box Replacements?

My rear view mirror somehow got burned and the liquid or something dripped down and burned the parts around my shift knob. Do you know where you can find these parts to get replaced? Does the dealer have it?

Also, how do you take off the knob. Does it turn to get off?

Here's a picture of my CL-S's box area burned...

you can just twist the shift knob off. you just have to put alot of force into it. and yes those can be replaced

That sucks. Seats are ok?
Forgot the website, but I think its called acuraonlineparts.com or acuraautomotiveparts.com. something like that. They got the cheapest prices that I've seen (besides my guy that works at honda)

What side do you twist? Counterclock wise? Doesn't seem to want to budge

Yup. Seats are ok, only part that's damage are those pieces. I don't know why the mirror dripped. I think it was too hot one day. I brought it into Acura dealership and they told me there's no liquid in the mirror tho... not sure. Do you know what the part is called? I can't seem to find it or the name..

many posts on deceased mirrors, they have an electrically active fluid. its how the night time button works. yeah, if the seal cracks and you see bubbles or a line in your mirror there is a small possibility it could leak. mine was 'broken' for ~2 years before i had it replaced but it never leaked. still not sure about the shifter knob tho

This is all too familiar - this happened to me last year. I purchased the parts online from Delray Acura and put them in myself. Including the mirror replacement I think I spent around $170 on parts and 30 minutes of my time to replace everything. The dealer wanted like $400!

Thanks for all the codes.

Ya I got a quote from my local dealer (in Ottawa) and they wanted around $250 alone for the mirror + install.

It's weird how you have to order the whole center console. I just want the simple silver piece.

yea It's weird. I was at a parking lot and I guess it was a sunny day. Come back and my rear view mirror is all messed up and blurry and my center console has holes. I think I'll try the sanding process but the burns are really deep so we'll see.

I thought the same thing but bit the bullet anyway. You may be able to find a CL at a scrap yard and you could take the trim out of there. My guess is the sanding will not turn out too well.

BTW, let me know if you would like me to scan the pages out of the service manual for the mirror replacement, etc.

I'm thinking about getting it but really don't feel like paying 80 bucks for some plastic piece... I just blew 3grand on tranny rebuild. Really unhappy with the CL-S lately... Now I got SRS light and my seatbelt is making some noise when I move it.

I feel for you as I just paid in the same ballpark for my tranny as well. I will say the little annoyances are starting to get on my nerves as well as now I have a rear light issue to deal with. It should be simple but as the car got to be 9 years old it seems like every couple of months there is something new to deal with.

Ok so after searching through some forums I found some more information on the mirror. Apparently the mirror contains harmful and hazardous chemicals that can irritate the skin and stuff.

I found the company to be Magna that designed the mirror. I understand that my car is almost 10 years old but this small problem is really dangerous and I just don't think I can let it go, especially if they want me to spend $200 bucks on a simple mirror replacement. Is there any sort of recall information? I've also heard that multiple BMW's have this problem as well.

Should I go through the dealer and just start dropping f bombs? This is an expensive fix and I really don't think I should be paying anything to fix it... Getting the mirror replaced should be the least they could do.

Irritate the skin?
That stuff would burn the s#@! out of you looking at your shifter area.
Some things just go.
Now if someone was hurt or someones kid got messed up by that stuff in the mirror, bet your ass they would give you a new mirror.
They would give you a dozen mirrors to try to butter you up not to sue them.

I seriously wonder why they weren't sued in the first place. The shit is hazardous! It's like acid... I think I'm going to call Magna tomorrow or call my local Acura dealer.

They did that with the CLs as well, but it was more of a good-will replacement then a recall. That window has since closed, so you cant get a free replacement.
