Need Help On Some Basic Maintanence

Hey guys,

I'm just planning to do some quick changes and I can't seem to find the old threads on these.

First off is the spark plugs, I heard there were better plugs i.e. platinum out there and I just wanted to find out the part number for this. I think the stock ones are iridium if i'm not wrong. I also need the torque specs and the gapping specs for it as well. Someone stole my manual when I originally bought the car

Also I need the part number for the cabin air filter so I can just pick it up at Kragen or something. I heard that you're suppose to keep the plastic piece that you cut out behind the glove box but how does it stay in if you cut the tabs?

Thanks guys

use oem NGK plugs laser cut irdium plugs. They should already be gapped correctly for you. it's just a plug and play install.

a bolt holds the plastick peice in for the cabin filter

thread here (CL is the same as the TL in this regard) complete with pictures

sorry to hi jack thread, I ordered plugs for my CL-S '01, the person asured me that NGK7790 (laser platinum) was the reccomended plug for this car and I believed him. Can someone tell me if I should not use them? will they not perform as good as the laser iridium? did I throw my $ down the drain? (have not installed yet)

For the cabin filter, just go to the Auto Parts store. They all have a book near the filters that tells you which one to buy. The cabin filter has two filters that get replaced.

Try to make sure you have a vacuum handy with a skinny attachment so you can suck up the loose leaves/dirt etc once you remove the old filters. I've done this filter change 3 times and each time I've forgotten to grab the vacuum

Hmm... really not sure. I checked my owner's manual and it just says PZFR6K-11/IZFR6K-11.

And on that note, it's weird that the manual says use Platinums for ATs, and use Iridiums for MTs... is that just because the 6MTs came around in 03? It'd be weird to say you have to use a completely different spark plug depending on whether it's an automatic or manual.

they put lazer iridiums starting in 03 in the Type-S.

In 01-02, they were lazer platniums. you can use either in your car and it will be fine. I went with the lazer iridiums for my car.

the laser iridiums are the replacement plug and they are relatively inexpensive @ 13 each (not bad for 100K of service)

Yeah I doubt the platinums are "wrong" for our cars. Just from what I've read, Iridiums outperform platinums.

thats probably why they started putting iridiums in the acuras starting in 03. but since the J32A2 were already using platniums in the 01/02 years, they able to run both.

I brought this up on another post about plugs for our cars. I went on advancedautoparts.com and even the store for my CL-S6 and it told me to use a different plug. Go on NGK.com and it told me to use #6994 which is what is recommended from my service manual. If you look under your hood it tells you which plug.

For the auto's it looks like it uses:
NGK Double Platinum 7790 PZFR6E-11
NGK IX iridium 6441 ZFR6FIX-11
NGK Laser Iridium Long Life 4095 IZFR6F-11
