i'm assuming you have an automatic. if so i suspect that you're getting a rather large power loss through you trans. i'm assuming your not having any other driveability problems. runs fine, just lousy gas milage? have you noticed your RPMs higher at 60 MPH than they used to be? it could be an engine computer related problem as well, but given the problems these transmissions have i'm guessing its slipping in the trans.
it's a automatic. i NEVER turn on the AC (cuz it's cali) always use 91..it's kinda driving me nutz..but then again, i can't go back to santa monica acura cuz they suck donkey balls, so i've yet to go to the dealer to complain..
On Gas mileage, last night at i drove from Miami to Key west, then Key west to Ft. lauderale. At a half tank i was at 225miles, AC was on whole trip. So with that in mind, assuming your going 65-74mph, you could probably get very close to 500 miles on a full tank.
sounds like u and me are getting the same kind of mileage, i'm averaging about 16mpg ... fuel light comes on around 230 .... pretty sad.... i put 91 in my car and i'm not too heavy on the pedal (however i do push it quite a bit, its a quick car, i like to go quick what can i say... )

I get about 17 mpg... could it be the gas we have in CA? I fill with Chevron or shell 91 only.. I drive bumper to bumper traffic tho.
Well, my trip computer says I'm averaging 28.5 MPG since the last fillup...
Oh wait, that's right, I drive a TSX
I used to get 300-320 miles on a full tank on my 03 CLS (5AT) - That's with usually at least one WOT a day
God I miss that sound

Check your air filter and check your A/F ratio.
My friend is buying an RS soon with an ITR motor in it, and that thing just got rebuilt fresh like 3 weeks ago. It's running extremely rich and is getting like 15 mpg (on a B18C5) on the highway.
How do you take off at a green light? Do you ease into the gas pedal or do you just stab it? Stop-and-go is THE worst enemy for fuel economy. Gotta go really gentle. Make an effort to stay below 3000 RPM or so in the city. I'm sure you will see a big improvement.
I drive like a jackass, and the lowest I've gotten was 19 mpg, and the highest 24 mpg.

make sure you dont rev too high when driving that kills ur miles, i get about 19mpg thats not too bad, but when on long trips i get 27mpg, and i drive about 80 on the interstate w/ cruise control on...

One time I decided to go really easy on a tank, and with 70% city and 30% highway, I got 24 mpg. So the potential of good gas mileage is definitley there. I just can't seem to bring myself to not hit VTEC.
i usally cruse at 80 when on the highway. i do have a vafc, which hasn't been dyno run yet..maybe thats the problem? sorry i can't think staraught, i just got back fomr th e club and i'm kida cked

something is obviously wrong here....I mean shit...I even have a heavy foot and I avg between 19-24mpg, and I'm in So Cali too. If its mostly city, I get around 19-20, half city & half hwy about 21-22mpg, and mostly highway with city I get around 23-24 (thats with like, 65/35 hwy & city)
City driving in town is typically 1-2 miles per trip with several stop signs or lights on every trip. 15-16 is normal in that situation. EPA is usually 20% too high in its estimation of city driving. EPA rated the 2001 at 19 city; 29 highway. I get 15-16 city; 26-29 higway at 80. At 55 mph, which mever happens, I assume I would get well over 30mph on the highway. Not bad.
This could possibly be jumped timing. Let me tell you why.
Back in the mid 80s, man, did it ever rain around here. I mean ALOT! I had a fairly new dodge daytona and I had to drive it through "puddles" where the water was actually washing over the hood. The water lubricated the timing belt and the timing jumped. Now with a 13 gallon tank, this car was good for about 350 miles to a tank.
Although the car ran JUST FINE, the car would go through a tank of gas in 75 miles or so. I took it to the dealer and they discovered the cams were about 40 degrees out of sync with the crankshaft. I had a new belt put on (foolish not to at this point), the mechanic reset the cams and presto! The gas mileage was back.
The reason for this is that fuel injected systems have a very remarkable capability for self correction. The engine was getting a larger than normal charge of air, so the FI responded by throwing more gas at the engine. At least, that's the way the mechanic explained it to me.
Hope this helps you. Have the dealer check this out.

Trey: depends upon your driving habits.
Others: I will NEVER understand these people who get 500 to 550 miles per tank.
The maximum theoretical mileage of a CLS 6 MT is 481.6 miles. And that is if you don't have to shift the gears to get there! 320 per tank is about the best I've ever got. And you have to consider although I do live on the fringe, this IS Chicago!

My
Have been keeping track of mileage since I bought my CL-S-6M new in 12/03 - Filling tank about once a week on average - currently have 7500 miles on it.
Max/Min/Avg
30.3/17.7/22.6
About 60% city/40% highway
Have noticed that keeping my foot out of it helps - The low mileage number was when I was checking how well the car accelarates
. Since then, I stay out of VTEC unless I need to pass some stinking Mustang
or need a "g" fix
, realizing I'll be paying for it at the next fillup
On accelerating, I try to shift around 3500 RPM, and get off the gas if I see a red or yellow traffic light ahead.
It's hot here, so use my A/C most of the time. Tire pressure is 30 psi, and am using Mobil 1 oil...
Cheers!

Well, there is your problem, AN UNTUNED VAFC. Either take it off or get it tuned. You caused this problem yourself.

I just did a 373 mile round trip from basically O'hare field to Appleton Wisconsin and back. About a dozen lights to and from the tollway, and four complete stops on the tollway to pay. Cruise control used 90% of the time on the way up at 70 mph and used 70% of the time on the way back at 75 mph. 30.1 mpg. No A/C was used.
Get the car onto a highway or freeway where the car can run about 20 to 100 miles at 50 to 70 MPH. If the car isn't getting in the mid 20s to 30s (MPG), something is "funny."
Top off the fuel and return to the exact same pump at the exact same station for testing purposes.
BTW, the road shouldn't be relatively flat to avoid the mileage loss from going up hills.
If you have bad enough traffic, you can get about 12 MPG. If you REALLY have bad traffic -- IOW, you basically sit in traffic for about 80% of the time, you will really see poor results unless you kill the engine.
The car gets 0 MPG when stopped with the engine idling (hey, it's not a hybrid). Traffic around my area is terrible between 8AM and 7PM.
