semi-new CL owner needs help determining CLP vs CLS
I have had my 2001 CL for about 1 year now. The previous owner had done some mods/work to the vehicle.
I know there are 2 "different" motors and other differences between the CLP and CLS. I want to know which one I have for parts/service.
I have 2 VIN #s listed on the vehicle:
Standard Dash - 19UYA42401A006923
On Rear of Driver Door near locking mechanism - 19UYA42601A005908
I have been reading up on the differences between the models.
I have the Type-S badge on the rear.
I have the Type-S shift knob (automatic)
The plastic engine cover says "ULEV" which I assume makes it a CA ultra low emissions model, and to my understanding the CLS was not available for CA models.
My leather seats are heated but are NOT perforated.
The 17" rims on the vehicle have an Acura sticker on the center caps but I have never seen them on any other CL or any Acura either.
Any help is appreciated!

most likely it's a premium with a type-s door

I found some more VIN tags with the Premium code. I guess the previous owner just put a Type-S badge on the trunk and Type-S shift knob. So I have a CA ULEV motor... anyone know any differences between this and the regular LEV motor?

I have the white gauges. It also concerns me that I have a TCS button on the dash but a VSA light (not illuminated) on the cluster. The plastic engine cover says ULEV, which means a CA emission vehicle. Which I believe there were no ULEV CLS's ever made. I will try to get a good picture of the engine near the front motor mount and post it later. Thanks guys

I am going to check the motor when I get a chance to see if I can find the A1 or A2 markings. If it is a CLP, I will definitely debadge the trunk and get rid of the type-s shift knob. However, do you guys know anything about the instrument cluster? I am not sure if my TCS works since the VSA light does not illuminate the in type-s gauge cluster.
Who would go through the trouble of changing out the gauge cluster in the first place when the car was a CLP? Anyone know where I can get a new or used one that should have gone with my car originally?

If you can prove that the previous owner tempered with the cluster and therefore changed the actual miles, without having it approved and labeled, you may have a case in court. It is illegal to temper with mileage on the vehicle and that's a federal law.
Now, type S or Premium you probably won't get anywhere with that battle.
