Selling and buying a TSX???

Well...i had my tranny recall done three days ago...all i got was the "KIT" job. Since my car only has 19,000 miles on it (2001 CLS).....and they gave me this amazing red colored TSX to drive for the last three days.
I must say i immediately fell in love with this car...i like the interior alot..the steering was very tight. and the fit and finish on the car seemed to be perfect. I know it doesnt have the power my CLS has but its got better gas mileage, and has enough pep as well....

so what do u think i could get outta my ride as an outright sale? 2001 CL-S with 19.000 miles...i would like to get payoff which is 18k since i jsut bought the car...

anyone else like the TSX or have an opinion?

Wow, you must be underpaid.

I don't think you'll like that move unless you really want a slower, smaller car.

i am underpaid your right, im dumpin 40 a week in gas on my CL, and thats alot for me with low wage job...
i keep reading about the tranny issues and quite frankly it kinda makes me nervous about the car...im starting to figure that with its low mileage i just might...a big might, be able to get payoff on it and walk away froma potential disaster before it happens..

one of the reasons the TSX probably doesnt have any tranny problems is because it doesnt have any POWER

if you bought the 6spd maybe it'd be different but if your actually going to purchase a five speed automatic again .....

I know if I was given the chance again there is no way I would be in an anthracite auto.

yeah dont get me wrong i do enjoy the CL.. i jsut dont want to be blind to the facts that the tranny problem is a huge deal, and that i spend way too much money on gas commuting to school and work each week.. i would definately miss the power, but i have been to court for street racing, i have had tickets...and i honestly dont use the CL to its potential..im afraid to :-(

Wow, you haven't had the car very long. You should be getting at least 23 mpg around town. Doubt the TSX will do much better, although it is a nice car. If you're strapped for dough, why buy brand new? Also, why did the dealer keep your CL-S for 3 days just for the "kit"? Supposed to be an hour job. Maybe he wants you to buy the TSX!!!

Too much too soon

Sounds like you just made a bad decision from the beginning. You got
in over your head from the start... gas, tranny... you're worrying
too much about these things which just says you couldn't afford the
car from the start.. hey, not putting you down, we've all done similar
things... Privately sell the car (great miles) and go get a used celica.
You can get another machine later when the time is right...

I don't think the gas difference will justify the cost of selling the 01 and buying a TSX. Save maybe $5-10 a week on gas?
I don't blame you for being nervous about the CL automatic tho. I prefer shifters.

I had the TSX as a loaner for a day and i really enjoyed it. I echo what was stated above in that it doesn’t have any power and it is fairly boring to drive. However the interior, especially with the NAV is 10x's better then the CL.

If you can live with the loss of power it would make a great replacement for the CL. Even if the two extra doors are useless IMO.

Also the TSX gauges > *

Instead of a brand new TSX, why not look at a slightly used Civic R?? that will give you the pep and aftermarket mod-ability that the CL has (or more), and it will still get good mpg.
If you can handle driving a hatchback, that is.....

Underpaid, I will agree with the TSX interior, fit and finish. It is a gorgeous car.

But do the math:

keeping your car + current V6 gas < lower trade in equity (negative if you are upside down) + tsx payments + 4-banger gas

And second variable:

260 HP > 200 HP no matter what

Wtf? i dont know what kinda tsx yall were driving but the interior is ugly imo. so much plastic, not nearly as refined as the cl. seemed cheap comparatively

Man you must have one of them new fangle 2007 CL's with the updated interior because the TSX interior is light years better looking than my 2001 cl.

Just took a quick peek in my CL. Yup more plastic and bowling ball trim. At least the wood in the TSX looks nice or you can get the metalic trim.

Are you sure you are looking at the tsx and not the RSX? Most magazines rave about the interior. I see nothing that resembles a civic in there.

I'm surprised you found the TSX boring. I agree with the lack of power, but the car handled really well. Stock, it was at least as good as my TL-S with all of its suspension mods. The car is meant to handle well. Of course, if you dump 4 people into the car then all of a sudden you can feel the 4-banger's lack of torque.

Personally, if the TSX came with more power, and maybe AWD, I'd be ready to dump the TL-S and grab the TSX. Its smaller yes, but it was so much fun to drive.

The interior is nice too

I agree on the tsx interior. when I bought the CL I was between the CL and the TSX .. the TSX interior was selling me on that car, but the motor eventually sold me on the CL.

I certainly like the tsx interior better and it definately has a better handling feel .. but if the car doesnt launch out of those corners what the hell is the point of it handling so well ???

If you can enter the turn faster then you dont need as much power to exit ... Try driving in some twisties against a Miata that only has 178hp and tell me that handling doesn't matter! It would own the CL-S on a twisty road.

The TSX doesn't handle like a Miata granted, but it still handles a lot better than a stock CL-S. If it were lighter, the lack of power wouldn't even matter, but it weighs nearly as much as a CL-S. Anyways, I do agree it needs power, but that doesn't mean the TSX can't hold its own against a CL-S in the twisties... Not saying either would win, I'm not really sure which would do better. But because it handles so well, it makes it fun to drive, thats my opinion at least.

Nice interior etc....but put it threw the REAL test:

Put 3 adult passengers in the TSX and take it for a run.......NO GUTS.....LOTS OF NOISE !

That is where it fails ! Not to mention luggage, 3 adults etc.......

well i know for a fact you are going to lose more money if you decide to trade in the cl-s.

if you want to do this swap the best route would be to sell your car for $16-18k privately and pick up a used low mile TSX. this way you wont lose too much money...

A stock CLS is a total boat! I love the way mine handles now though. TSX interior is gorgeous. My wife just saw the picture over my shoulder and asked me what it was. J32 rocks though. Would be hard to give up.

i agree maybe i did purchase the CL and got a little in over my head...i mean i can definately afford the car i just feel more tied down on what i can do "recreationally" with my money since i hadnt had a car payment this size before..ive been driving 4 cylinders my whole life so thast probably why i related with the TSX so well..it was what i was used to..

the reason why they had my car for 3 days to get the oil kit done is because the dealership is 2 hours away..and that being the closest one...

I would never consider a trade in of my car, only private sell...but even then I dont think the TSX is in my ball park..

all in all i guess i just had a great time driving a 4 banger since it felt normal to me and handled like my old SI, but a little better IMO. But after m trouble with the law i dont know if ill ever really get the CL more than 15 over the speed limit...
