seat heater buttons

Why do the auto's have high and low adjustments for the seat heaters, while my 6spd only has on or off. Also why are they in diffrent positions. Did acura just feel like switching it up or does it serve a purpose?

The single position switch in the 6-Speed is kind of a “combo” switch.
From what I’ve experienced it comes on in the HIGH position until it hits a preset temperature.
After that it kicks to LOW and then cycles ON/OFF to maintain a comfortable range.
I remember on my 2001 if I kept the switch on HIGH it would burn my ASS if I didn’t switch it to LOW once it got warm.
So they kind of combined the functionality of the two-way switch into a single setting.

The high lo combo is more useful

Well in the 2001, high is too hot. So really there is only one setting.

I'll keep it on LOW frequently, especially if I park outside. When I remote start, the car warms, up the air in the cabin, and the seat warmers heat up the seat so it's not so cold

And yeah, the Jetta's seat warmers can send you to the ER if your not careful

I figured out I have not gone a single month without using the seat heater. Maybe that is why they replaced the one in the back of the seat today?

It's the first thing I turn on when I start the car up during winter.
These past two days it's stayed on low all through my commute (45-60 minutes)

when I first startup the car I use it to get the seat warm so I don't sit on it cold, but then shut it off while driving.

oh and in my 03, if you leave it on High it cycles off when it gets too hot and then back on .. but low stays on all the time.

I only use it when warming up the car after it has sat overnight and it is cold like it is right now. Other than that with a ebony interior they heat themselves up plenty quick with any kind of sunshine.

Literally. One of my friends has a Jetta. About a month ago something shorted in the seat heater. It burned through the leather and burnt his jacket before he realized it. That was some crazy shit.

VW needs to go back to Car Electrics-101. Its amazing how notorious their electrical problems are.

As for the CL, I'm always a bit cautious and wary to not leave it on the High-setting for too long. A bit unnerving that something might go wrong.

Oh ya.... there need to be a Meduim setting cos Low does NOTHING and High threatens to fry my a**!

Yeah .. that is something that I miss from the Auto when I *cough* upgraded to the manual .. I always liked the 'high/low' settings on the seats ... I think what they did on the manual tranny is definately a downgrade

Do any 6-Speed drivers agree with how I think they operate ???
When I first swapped from the Slush-Box to the 6-Speed I too was mad about the “downgrade”. But I think the single position switch works just fine.

What you mentioned sounds right to me. My seats heat up pretty quick and after that they stay warm and never come close to "burning" me.

Like Shawn said, I agree, the single position switch is just fine by me. Curiously though, my fathers Pacifica has two position switches for both the front and next row of seats. On "high" in that crossover vehicle, the seats mearly warm you to a nice temperature. Sometimes, the CLS seats get so warm as to be uncomfortable. No big deal, just turn the heaters off. In winter, I'd rather be too warm, than not warm enough.

Either way, these devices spoil you. I can never imagine me buying another car without seat heaters, and because I travel tons by car, the navi is a necessity also.

Agree. Nice quick warming action and then cycles at a more comfortable setting.

Our Subaru Forester has the hi/lo thing. I find the high setting too high (but no where near burning) -- my wife thinks it is perfect. I prefer the lower setting in the Subie.

In these parts, it's common for the morning temp to be -40. The seat warmers on the 6 speed take a few minutes to heat up to a comfortable temp. When it's "only" -10, I find they get a little too warm - gotta protect the 'ol sperm count...

We have 2 dubs in the family. On 5 you're cooking eggs in a pan. That sh*t hurts! I always wake up my friends when they fall asleep on a long drive.... *evil*

The 6-speed heaters are thermostatic, so they cycle to maintain a "decent" temperature while they're on. I think it works fine with only the one button. Therefore they don't need a hi/lo setting.

I suspect one of the reasons they did that was due to the differences in the center console between the 6-speed and the autos. I haven't done a scientific comparison, but it seems like there's more empty plastic in the autos than in the 6-speed.
