Seat Belt Oddity

Need some tech help here please. When I turn off the ignition, I occassionally can feel a slight release in my seat belt. It is very slight but noticeable nonetheless.

Anyone notice this? What is it? I wouldn't have thought that the seat belts were connected electronically to anything except the female part when the belt is inserted to tell when the belt is connected or not.

Anyone enlighten me on this?

Pete

umm just your fabulously imaginative imagination ). Seatbelts have pre-tensioners (slack takeup devices) that release... as well, if you lean back to let the seat belt retract after lock up, it will unlock itself inthe way you stated.

I feel the same thing when I turn off the ignition. I believe it's the seat belt tensioner.

Just a guess.. Seat belt tensioner has battery power, when you turn off the ignition the voltage drops a little bit, thus tension drops a little bit??

It's the seat belt heater. It should be cool when you are ready to get out.

Hmmm, Mercury. Seat Belt Heater, eh? Okey Dokey... I think I'll go with the tensioner answer..... Although I would have thought that it was a spring device and not electronic.... Again, just a neophyte trying to figure things out. And this one, I believe, is not in the manual!

Seat Belts

Jens.. No real worry. just curiosity. The feel in the seat belt is noticeable when you turn off the ignition. I'm OK with that, just curious what's going on! Or off as the case may be!

Have a great day!
