RX-8 vs Me.....in the 6spd

Don't know what type it was...but it appeared to be the sport model/manual...from a stop light(had a small wing also )...he was actually in front of me at the light & took off(little squeak from the tires)...so I played along and passed him by 65ish...

Sounded like he had aftermarket pipes or maybe he was just mashing the gas. No biggie...I would have expected more of a fight though.

Everyone always says these things are fast...but I'm bone stock ex for exhaust

Who exactly says they are fast?

Most just say they handle like monsters so in a roadcourse they are actually impressive. But unless they are crazy clutch dropped they are like 7 second cars

I love the look of them and was interested in them for a while, then when Mazda retracted their statement about how much power they made, totally tuned me off. I think RX, i think crazy turbo and limited availability, but they made this car so toned down that anyone can get one. I see a few a day where I live and only girls seem to be driving them, automatics no less, which is even more underpowered. I think Mazda blew it on the rx-8.

I have a stock CL non-S and I took my buddy in his RX-8 a couple times from a dead stop and kept up with him dead even on the highway.

They are not that fast

it reminds me of my friends s2k... anybody famililiar with Rockaway Beach in queens...??

well theres a straight strip of road its gotta be over 2 miles long... COMPLETELY STRAIGHT...

anyways my boy was talkin shit about my "boat" and i would never beat him in a race... i said "lets go" ive driven the s2k and, if you guys remeber when i origianlly posted, im not impressed by the speed... (handling is a horse of a diffrent color)

anyway my point is, he could not pass me during the race... i hit at least 120-130 mph... (i didnt look down but he said he hit 125 (his speedometer is digital) i had a lead the whole time and kept it...

btw his car is bone stock mine has an AEM CAI...

s2k & rx8 aint all that fast but the handling is what gets em'

Thats one of favorite spots. I got into a lot of races late at night on that bridge. Its a nice smooth stretch. I used to hang out by the water with my wife at night over there. Are u from that area? I live right off crossbay blvd in Lindenwood.

That F20C could use some iVTEC (read: cam phasing) to cure that Jekyll/Hyde power delivery.

The RX-8 is a complete disappointment. Their main goal was to bring back the rotary since they have had a bad rep with their cars and the horrible transmissions ( Mazda Millenia ) and lack of power they put in them. My boy has a 03' CL Type S fully comptech out and he embarrased an RX-8 fully kitted out. What a joke making a sports car an automatic. The baddest one was the 94 RX-7...

I'll agree the RX-8 is a disappointment. But ugh, a fully modded CL-S has about 70bhp over a stock RX-8. I'd hope he would beat it.

Also, about 92% of all CL's are automatic, so I guess 92% of CLs are also a joke.

Any reason why the '94 was "baddest" I don't think the R-1 package was that different in '94 than it was in '93 or '95.

No reason on the 94 , it's all the same ..That body style in general was the baddest.

A couple of points:

1) If the current RX8 winds up being the basis for a supercharged Mazdaspeed RX8 model in the very near future, then the current one (which runs mid 14s and handles great) becomes quite acceptable.

2) And just as an FYI, a good number of Corvettes, Mustangs GTs (04) and GTOs are sold as automatics. Though they may not be as quick a their MT counterparts, their ATs dont detract that much from their performance. (Although the same cant be said of the RX8.)

I agree with ya. If they can make the RX-8 platform work with a useable 280-300hp, the car would be perfect. It really needs to be supercharged or turboed though, its just not very fast in its current form. they got the handling spot on and I think they wanted to make sure the engine would be reliable before they boosted the shit out of it. I think the Mazdaspeed version is going to kick ass.

FYI:

I've never seen a RX-8 run mid-14s. Best was closer to 14.8 and slower.

FI would be the way to fix this thing...but the new engine hasn't been in business long enough to know if the durability is there(old one sure wasn't reliable).

Car and Driver pulled off a 14.5 @ 96mph. That'd be S O L I D in the mid-14s.

For the record though, I've never personally seen an RX8 run at the track yet.
