really bad luck

really bad luck

So I take my CL in on Wednesday for a scheduled appointment. I was scheduled for brake service, sunroof squeak elimination, and the 30k maintenance. I brought it in at 7 am, picked it up 5:30 that afternoon. Drove like a dream, brakes & sunroof were under warranty, only thing I paid for was the 30k service which cost me $437.

This morning, I get in my car, crank it up. Idle is way off. It started revving from 500 rpms to 2500. So I figure, ok I'll take it back to the dealer since they just worked on it. I put it in reverse. CLUNK! It shifted like a mack truck. So I think, ok I'm really going to take it to the dealer. I back out, put it in drive, WHAM! It feels like that mack truck just rear-ended me. Both the TCS and Check Engine lights came on. So I drove it to the dealership, which was the most excruciating painful event. It's in their hands now, haven't recieved a call on what it could be just yet, however I know what it is. In the 30k service, they change the transmission oil, which makes me think that something in that process got screwy which has caused my tranny to ultimately die, along with the idle arm sensor.

So I'm waiting...for a status on my CL...and for my loaner.

Did you check the ATF level? Changing the fluid shouldn't have caused any problems that weren't there before. But if they didn't put enough fluid back in...your tranny is toast.

No I didn't check the level, because it was running fine after I picked it up. And then I was so pissed this morning I drove it straight up there. I know it's toast. What else could have caused rough, hard shifts when you physicaly take it from park to reverse? no fluid! so yeah, it's gone...

I would not expect to have to check up on something as routine as fluid change done at Acura.

Best guess, They drained the Tranny oil and forgot to fill it up with new 2.9 Qrts of ATF-Z1 fluid.

The tranny is busted for sure. Plan on 2-3 weeks with your car...

I hope you get a decent loaner..

The mech who fuucked up is a toast :'(

Wouldn't low ATF cause a Check Engine Light?

2-3 weeks to rebuild a tranny good lord what are they doing building the parts themself . When I had my tranny rebuilt in my old accord it was 3-4 days.

Here's an update folks.

The acura shuttle (black TL-S) came and picked me up because they said my car was ready. I get in, crank her up, and now just the check engine light is on. I drove it back into the service bay. Three techs, my service advisor and the service manager are all standing around my car (which is covered in tire dressing) trying to figure out what the flawk is wrong. One of the techs plugs up his PGM into my computer and determines that there's fluctuation between the TPS (throttle position sensor) and the ECU. Service Manager asks if he has any idea what causes this because they've never had a CL do this, in which the tech replies, "nope sure don't". Service Manager then says, "Order one of each".

They're going to replace my computer and my throttle sensor in an attempt to prove that one of them is bad. I'm bringing it back up there on Monday when the parts will be in. The car is driving fine now, which is what it does when neither of the lights are on. When the lights are on, the shift timing and my foot/throttle combination is off.

And yes, they've already arranged a loaner for me on Monday. I'll be sure to post the three service tickets when I get the last one since this is so rare...

Has anybody ever had a problem with their ecu??

But why would your car go CLUNK in reverse. I could see your engine running rough, but it sounded like you were talking tranny noises!

The tech said that my car shifted rough because the tps sensor could not establish a correct notification of the engine idle, therefore the car just shifted with no holds barred. I'm still iffy about it, but the car hasn't shifted rough since they hooked up the pgm and check all the codes.

it's strange...trust me I know...

I'd be calling Honda/Acura america on these jokers So not only they screw up your tranny, then sounds like the people working on your car doesn't know what the hell they're doing, plus your out of a car for about a week(which is a little long if you as me) sounds like another dealer we need to put on the DO NOT GO TO THESE GUYS list!
