Re: Replacement of Knuckle
Hey,
I have some major issues with the passenger rear knuckle of my CL. Please help me.
After I purchased my CL, I was having issues aligning the car and my aftermarket rotors wouldn't fit the passenger rear. (Running 3 rotors = ghetto)
I took it into Acura of Serramonte for a FULL inspection.
During that inspection, suspension issues were revealed (previous owner's rear end accident...New flash! What a bastard!) which has prevented me from lowering.
I've dodged the issue because the repairs are expensive and the car is still driveable in its current condition.
Now I have my coils and need to face this issue head on.
I've visited three mechanics now to get various advice and have received back very limited information.
An alignment was performed directly by one mechanic.
He said my right side was sitting just inward of the driver's side...they don't match.
Junkyard parts pieced maybe from a different year CL.
But do these parts vary this much from year to year?
I'm hoping my Acurazine friends can help out if you have some mechanical expertise.
You see this image of the Rear Lower Arm on a 2001 CLS
Circled in RED is the passenger rear knuckle.
This entire assembly I was told needs to be replaced including the OEM shock.
It's important that this issue be resolved correctly which is why I really need some guidance.
I don't want to purchase parts I don't need and don't want to do this the F'd up way which will cost me more in the long-run.
PLEASE HELP
1) WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
2) WHAT PARTS CONNECT TO THE KNUCKLE THAT I WOULD NEED TO FIX MY PROBLEM?

Alright, I might have an idea of what the deally is with your suspension. Luckily the baby is sleeping and I got time on my hands.
Here's what I found.
From the diagrams I found, the Accord and CL look very similar. Only thing not similar is the price..
Accord....
36566 002 1 KNUCKLE, L. RR. $135.36
CL
1 52210-S0K-A00 KNUCKLE, R. RR. 1 2001 CL $312.66
Then, I cross referenced rotors between the 2. The only place I could get part numbers was on Parts America (aka Kragens)
Both rotors were Raybestos Advanced Technology Brake Rotors.
Accord part # 96710 Overall Height - 1.9"
CL part # 96988 Overall Height - 2.57"
The control arms look very similar in the diagrams. It sounds like you got parts from an Accord. It might be just a difference in the hub itself, or it might indeed be the whole knuckle. THEN, you may have an Accord brake Caliper too. If you get a chance, pull the rear wheels off. You should be able to tell right away.

Dennis,
That is a great idea and something I hadn't considered before.
From a suspension standpoint I thought the Accord and CL are identical in these respects.
But maybe there are variances between the dimensions.
How would I be able to tell by pulling of the rear wheels?
Part #'s?
Because I recall that there are paint marking on these parts from maybe a salvage yard (Acura showed me while car was still on the lift.)
My question is that wouldn't Acura notice that off the bat or would they have solely been focused on cross-selling me more parts & labor.
That I don't know but if I were a more educated in these matters I could probably figure this out.
Thanks for your idea.

Noah, try to get specs on the hub itself. Perhaps you can just change that out and run your new disc. The brakes calipers looked the same. Just the tophat of the disc came out farther. So, if the shaft isn't longer, maybe it's just a matter of swapping hubs.

I recently replaced my left front knuckle and upper control arm. I found the parts used for a pretty good deal, around $120 or so. Search online or even ebay for used parts.
