Radar Detector

What's the best radar/laser detector that will best protect me from speed traps?

Is it the Escort 8500? What about scramblers?

I've been using an Escort 7500 over the weak (borrowed) and it almost never goes off, meaning VERY few false alarms.. Never went through a trap so I've never heard it really alarm..

Any suggestions?

Thanks. EllioT

I've never really wanted to buy a radar detector. But if I ever do, it'll definitely be the V1.

im gonna say this for the 5000000th time.

do a search, its a toss up between the v1 & escort 8500. if you want the arrows go w/ v1, if you want to save 100 bucks get good performance, auto mute, remote mute and dont' like the square bulkly look of the v1 go w/ the escort 8500.

Well all I want it to tell me if I need to slow down because there's a cop with radar/laser looming in the distance..

I don't want to get speeding tickets.. Would rather spend a few bucks now and save a bunch later...

MD State Police are not stupid. In fact, the last time I went thru there they seems to be pretty tough. They certainly aren't going to let those with cheapo radar detectors blow thru their state. You need the best defense money can buy: V1.

Blocker / Scramblers

What the deal on these Laser and radar blocker/ scramblers...are they worth a damn??? Example...have been thinking about the Phantom II Laser-radar Blocker/Scrambler. The reviews are good, but anybody have anything else to offer???

For my money, the Bel 875R was my choice over the V1 and Escort because it rated high and it is remotely mounted. After all, my last Escort did me no good after the window was smashed and the detector stolen. I have it mounted in the tray slot next to my SmarTire display (see below). If you are good at always putting it away when you park, then one of the others may be better. I have not gotten a ticket in the year that I've had it (I've averaged a ticket a year for the last 10 years) and have no problems detecting radar early and false alarms are minimal unless you set the sensitivity to maximum. Also, if I do ever get pulled over, I can turn it off and no cop would see it.
