quick question from the new guy
quick question from the new guy
i am considering buying a 01 cl-s but there is some questions i need answered. first is, will a double-din aftermarket radio fit in the opening or would i have to make some mods to fit it. i tried crutchfield.com to see if it would fit, but they are no help. i figured someone on this site could help me.
secondly, where can i find a lambo door kit for the cl? i love the way it looks and is the top priority for my first modification.
last but not least, what is with everyone's beef wit 20 inch rims on this site? i mean come on guys, we are not in our teens anymore, if you can go big then why not do it. i am about style personally, and i thinks dubs are the way to go.
thanks for putting up with the new guys questions, and im sure you'll be hearing from me soon.

Well 20s dont really fit on our cars too well without rubbing. Im a teen, I like 20s. I think big chrome rims look good on luxurys cars, which a 2nd gen cl is. And i tihnk some import rims look good on our cars but I think most should be kept on civics and integras. Moast people around here like import rims because they dont wanan losse performance. I say who cares cus a cl isnt gonna be too fast with out a supercharger, turbo or nos.
Personally dont think lambo doors belong on any other cars than a lambo.

a lexus GS is a luxury car...
20's are horrible i think sport rims draw the line at 19"...
but thats just my taste... most people here don't care about being the bling kings... i speak for most when i say subtle changes are hotter than "lambo doors"
custom grille is hotter than a CL with a lexus GS nose
but there are diffrent groups here... bling kings, stockies, etc

A few people have done lambo doors, but I'm not sure what kit they use. From what I understand you can use one for an accord with very little mods. As far as 20's go, they'll fit fine as long as you go with one that is 8 inches wide or less with the right offset. You can do a 20x8.5 but can't lower the car without rubbing. Good luck.

20-inch wheels give a horrible ride feeling, increase unsprung mass, which means slower acceleration and longer distance to stop, not to mention all the strain you're putting on the drivetrain.
You don't realize that there's A LOT of engineering that went behind choosing the wheels and tires. Engineers don't just up and choose some random numbers. They choose OEM size based upon careful calculation. You need to read up more on tire/wheel stuff. Yeah, in a way, it's an expression of style and, to a certain extent, yourself. But it's not clothing, man. There's actually engineering behind those things.
Lambdo doors belong on the Lamborghinis. That's why they are Lambo doors. :P By the way, proper terminology is scissor-type doors.

just because it has leather seats doesn't mean its a luxury car.
I can't think of anything 'luxurious' (or high performance for that matter) about my cl, luxury high performance vehicles start at the m3 level in my eyes.
just my opinion though. if you are used to driving saturns or something, then maybe the cl is more of a luxury car.

They both are quoted as near-luxury class and are very comparable to the IS 300 lexus. It my opinion, we are definitely ranked in luxury cars.

these are the same websites that suggest Acura RSX and Volkswagen Beetle in the 'you might also like' section when I was looking at Mustang Cobra's...
they can say what they want, I don't find my cl one bit luxurious.

Once you start checking off the options sheet on one of those they can get pricey. But as far as performance goes, I completely agree the M3 is far superior to the CL. RWD, amazing handling in stock form, about 70 more HP out of the same displacement motor .. stock for stock there is no comparison. The M3 completes the quarter in 13.4 if I do recall, and a CL 6spd in 14.5ish.
I think if you really want high performance luxury, your either looking at an M5 or a 6 series. Or, after having driven an S55 and an SL55 recently, perhaps something in the AMG line. Just my
yeah I kind of mis-stated the m3 thing. all I'm saying is that if I think 'luxury car' I think of a big cadillac or a navigator or something like that. a 'high performance' car would be an m3, m5, sl55, etc. something along those lines.
a 30,000 honda does not fit either classification, IMO.

than we definitely have a different definition of luxury. however, I see what you mean. My next car is an M3. However, the interior, like others said earlier, is not that different from a normal 330CI. Anyways, I love the CL-S ! I'm 22 and rolling
Welcome to the board new guy. Don't forget to put the subject of your post in the subject (title) line.

Sports Coupe but not luxury coupe? Despite Acura being the luxury line for Honda?
The RSX-S, and CL-S are performance-inspired luxury coupes which would make them luxury sports coupes.
Now w/ the new TL, I believe it's performance inspired.

Alright so we'll call it the "Entry Luxury Semi Sport Two Door Sedan"
Considering some insurance companies actually label it a 2-door sedan b/c when you open the door the window still has the frame on it. Unlike the 330ci or CLK etc. where when the door is open the top of the window has no border.
