Question on Power

Before I did a bunch of mods to my car all I had was a CAI and it was droped. I could Chirp from 1st to 2nd any time that I wanted to.

Now I have Cai/Headers/Exhaust and I can't chirp 1st to 2nd at all anymore...

WTF is up with that? I mean I can fell more power in the higher rpms like crazy what could cause this?

I plan on getting pulleys soon, I am thinking this will help wtih this, but after this who the hell knows..

Any insight please share!

that is a good point. Is there anyway to tell besides what I explained above if my clutch is wearing out?

Have your tires changed? Your air pressure?

I got new tires before I did all these mods and still had the chirp, but I did recently bump the pressure up in the tires to around 43 psi. Do you think that is the reason?

43psi is way too high. I never put air in tires above 37psi and thats pushing it, usually around 35psi. Unless its a truck...then you really dont need to be over 35pounds per square inch...

not sure why you're running so high, but the car should be at 32psi. when it's hot you can est. an extra 5psi for the expansion, but at rest shouldn't be more than 32 on the street

man Ross, no even thats less wheel protection. It makes our sidewalls stiff as shit. Take it down 10-12 psi.

I put it that high because it says 50 or 55 psi max. Handling is much better with higher psi tires, but I think that may be part of the reason the chirp left, I am going to lower it a little tomorrow and let you guy know the result.

How is that possible? Your TL isn't Type S?

My car has I/H/E and its the MT type S and all that I get is a chirp.

Does anyone else Spin second and chirp 3rd without boost and the same level of mods?

I don't see how you can in this car, unless your tires are as bald as and old man who lives under a nuculer power plant lol

his TL has a swapped CLS 6 speed tranny and motor swapped in along with a couple mods to it. So his clutch is fairly fresh. You probably cant chirp anymore cuz your clutch is worn.

After lowering the PSI in my wheels I can chirp 2nd eaisly, but it doesn't feel anywhere near spinning and not chirping 3rd. My cl-s has about 45k miles on it, had it since mile 2.

Hmm thats not too many miles, unless you relentlessly beat on your clutch which it sounds like w/all the chirping lol. When i bought my 1st stickshift (1st gen CL) n learned how to chirp gears, my clutch went out in like 700 miles! So be cautious cuz the fun comes at a price, and for a CLS-6 its a pretty penny

I hear ya, I don't beat on my car that much at all. I just like being able to chirp it when I want to. My clutch seems fine, no slipping and it is still firm.

After I put the headers and exhaust on I wanted to see the difference in power, or chirpiness in this case, I knew what it was like before the mods, was really surprised that it didn't chirp at all lol. Turns out it was from the PSI.. go figure

I swapped one in from the CL-S cause the 2nd gen TL never came in a manual.

I have 18x8 225/40 brand new tires.

Damn! You guys need some better tires. I can do that in 1st but I have to really try. I certainly can not screech 2nd that long before my tires hook up. A brief chirp & I get traction.

I'm with fuzzy, I get no where near that long of a screech in second. I can obviously spin first all the way to redline tapping the limiter, but 2nd is no where near that.

I'm running new Toyo Proxies up front, what kind of tires are you guys using?

I can do it with my snow tires, the 224/40/18 dunlop sp 9090s and the goodyear eagle F1 GS-D3. They dont get much better than that.

I have to agree, it sounds very nice.

I wonder if the stock ride height has anything to do with this..
