q about our engine

if our engine is inline 6 shouldn't all the exhaust be on one side of the engine instead of what it is right now.

It still poses an interesting question.... since our V6 is mounted trasnversely so there basically are no "sides". The exhaust manifolds start in the middle. So it must just be cosmetic that they decided to run them out right and left side and not the middle.

It does not matter if ya have a V6 or I6. Dual exhaust can be put on both engines.

look underneath your car. the split for the dual exhaust is around the rear axle. you can easily just have the exhaust pipe flow into one muffler. but the dual exhaust looks meaner.

The engine is mounted transversely so the pistons and crank run from left to right. There would be no way for the manifolds to be in the middle, intake ports are already there. One head on top of each bank of three cylinders. Having 4 valves per cylinder 'requires' the plug to be at the very top with the valves surrounding it. Two for intake and two foe exhaust at each cylinder.

Looking at a cross section of the heads you would see the ports and valves at an angle on the head. The intake and exhaust ports on opposite sides.

On our car and pretty much all V6's the intake ports are to wards the center of the engine, for a good reason. Since the block has the cylinders at an angle, 60 degrees on our car, the intake ports face more up allowing flow from the intake manifold an easier path and better packaging. Secondly, if the exhaust ports were on the inside all of the plumbing would be run in the 'V' of the engine. This would be difficult to make the bends and allows allow for heat build up. It would probably over tax the cooling system.
