Power Window repair?
Power Window repair?
ok folks, as i was putting my drivers window down tonight, i heard a loud bang. after the bang, the window fell down inside of the door. now the window will not go back up. do these windows have a problem with coming off of their track? i am thinking that it's the motor that has gone bad. i have not pulled the door panel off yet, but was wondering if anyone had an exploded diagram of the setup? that way i can call in sick tomorrow and fix my window. anyone else had this problem?
Sounds like the window regulator (about $70). This exploded view comes from www.acuraautomotiveparts.org
At least it doesn't sound like the window glass was broken.

well, i pulled the door panel and looked down. there was cable strung everywhere. tied in knots off the rollers wound around itself. i had to cut most of the cabe just to get the window to go back up. i went to acura and ordered a complete assembly for $75. guess i'm gonna call in tomorrow too so i can have a working window again. oh yeah...the locks autolock now, the passenger window won't go down when the drivers control panel is disconnected.
By cable, do you mean the wiring harness got caught in and wound around the mechanism? Did you ever have the door panel off before for anything (like replacing speakers)? After you cut the cable, do you think there's enough left to re-splice the connector and plug in to the regulator?
no, probably mean the cable that lowers and raises the window up and down. They are pretty easy to replace, though i havent done one on a 2nd gen, us 1st gen people have this problem often enough.
if you guys dont have a DIY for this problem, then i say this would be the perfect time to do one.

I see what you mean. It looks like the cable is part of the regulator assembly. I had my door panels off for speaker upgrades a while back, but didn't pay to close attention to the window mechanism. The only wires I remember messing with were the wiring harnesses for power windows, locks, etc.
yeah the cable broke loose from the motor and got tangled up. i bought the whole assembly from the dealership. it was $85 for the part with overnight delivery. there is no need for a diy on this. it tok me 15 minutes to pull out the old assembly and replace it with the new one. it took longer to pull off the door panel and put it back on the door.
2 bolts that hold the window to the regulator.
4 bolts that hold the regulator to the door.
3 bolts that hold the motor to the door.
unclip the motor harness from the door harness.
pull it out the giant hole at the back of the door.
do the opposite when replacing with a new one.
done.

i searched before i asked this question. apparently, i am the only member on here that can make a transmission last for 122k miles yet can't keep a window working for shit. it broke again today. the dealership gave me another one for free though. i'll see how long this one will last.
