Poor trade-in value of '03 CL-S

Tried to trade it in but dealer really low-ball it - $4500. The car is little over 100k and KBB trade-in value is $8200 (excellent)! Anyone experienced something similar?? What are real-world trade-in values of CL's?

Thanks!

I think you got your answer real world value is whatever the dealer is willing to give you..

An unpopular car in a time of slow buying --- I hate to go by KBB because they are not the ones who are going to buy the car from you... the dealer will always offer less because they are trying to maximize their profit.

I looked at my resale value not too long ago and wanted to cry... had i known it was going to drop so dramatically so fast i would have waited a year to purchase my car.

Dealers go by a black book not the blue book. 4500 is pretty on spot for what you would get from any dealer. It would be hard for them to sell a car over 100K miles. You may wana sell it out right or keep it

I have a one-way 15min commute and usually use the wife's car to get around.

G'luck to the OP on trading it in.

... I thought of driving it until it doesn't move but CL is an expensive car to keep:

1. still on 1st transmittion but easily $4500 if it breaks
2. flickering headlight - inverter $800 (passenger side already gone, luckily it was still under warranty at that time. Service invoice showed $800+ parts and labor)

and the list continues.

Thanks!

same thing happened to me. black 0 3 CL-S 6SP, carmax told me $4000.00. only have 76k. KBB $14K man! BS. Got me mad, I was about to upgrade to a 02 M3 if I would have just got like $12 for my car.

Actually will I get a better deal if I trade it for another Acura instead of Honda? Are Acura dealers more obligated to their own brand?

Just wondering...

The auto market is bad so dealers will not give a lot of money for cars because they are already taking huge losses. To get a replacement transmission shouldn't cost anywhere near $4500 unless maybe you get it done at the dealership but if you go to a reputable shop it will be around 1/2.

I want a legend coupe so bad.

I just passed 60k on my 03CL, and most of those miles were from the first owner. I drive it maybe 300 miles a month...the joys of biking everywhere.

Honestly the CL/TL (besides the trans after warranty) arent that expensive to own. They are full of it for 800+ labor. the part is 350-400 at the dealer.

Wonder what they would give me for my 2000 TL with 303K (on the body)

I dont know if west coast dlrs use galves .. ask one of the salesman ..
I worksd at 3 dealers in the past 6 years and they all use galves...
Everytime i go to a auction everyone is holding there galves like the priest hold their bible... Its the Bible of used car prices.. Galves is ALWAYS less then KBB and NADA so do the math with those numbers I gave you and dont take less then that!! Remeber those umbers are current and change every 2 weeks. A new Galves comes out every 2 weeks!

the 3rg gen TL guys fail to believe that a car's history can have a negative impact on resale...lol the automatic trans problems these cars have plays a major factor in their resale value and then add to that a used car market that is already over saturated and you get the present situation

you think you got it bad, 05-06 TL are currently in the 19-20K range even for a car with less than 60K miles and navigation.........

I checked with another dealer today. They quoted me $5.6k. Still kind of low I think. They use 'Manheim" auction software.

Ya, dealers are going to lowball you because of the market like everyone said, this is a given.

The key is, the CL-S isn't like a camry, you can't go anywhere you want to find one. So you should be more likely to sell this car to a private seller who is looking a CL because they might have been looking for one and there aren't many on used car lots.

Based on this my 01 CL S with 165k is worth 800? (75 x 80 = 6000)

Manhein is a acution.. They are auctions all aver the usa.
My managers sometimes check what the cars are going for at auctions also if the customers complain that we are giving them to little for there trade!

First thing... no car with 100,000 miles is in "excellent" condition. Second thing... CLs have always had lousy re-sale value.

Lastly, Blue Book is changing every 2-3 weeks instead of every 2 months and nothing is "worth" what it was.

You didn't get low balled you got reality I'm afraid.

that's not true, it depends on if you make repairs that are needed or not.

a lot of people have cars on them with 100K plus and you wouldn't know it by looking at them........

Excellent Condition means you drive the car from the parking lot onto the showroom and put a window sticker on it. KBB itself says:

"Looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category."

It's funny, though, when I talk with customers it seems more like 95%, not fewer than 5%, think their car is in "excellent." condition.

Quick Reply: Poor trade-in value of '03 CL-S
