I pulled up in a left turn lane behind a beautiful Red Viper this afternoon. There's no turn arrow at this intersection so we just waited for traffic to clear. He makes his turn and is in the #1 lane. When it finally clears enough for me to turn, the light is yellow on it's way to red. So I hot foot it through the intersection and come flying up on the Viper. He sees me coming up and nails his. I think I caught him flat footed at the bottom of second. We're blowing by traffic and he was pulling away slightly when he hit the top of gear but he wasn't flat out leaving me. It also didn't help that he had a slow shift to 3rd. I ran it up to about 80mph when I cut it off but he stayed on his a little longer. I was going to say hi to him at the next stoplight but the guy bailed across two lanes to make a right.

Before the flames start, by no means am I suggesting that I can beat a Viper. I just caught one flat footed, took advantage of it and had some fun. I don't think it hurt that my gas light was on and I was headed to the gas station for a fill up and that the guy in the Viper wasn't too fast through the gears.

 

You do have headers and S/C ,.........just caught him off guard I suppose. Man I've got to get some headers,.......

 

he may have underestimated you and used minimal effort.

 

Sounded like fun. Sometimes it's fun to mess with cars you are technically not supposed to keep up with.

 

i played with a viper once, i only did it so i could say that i did knowing full well that it would end with my ass being handed to me, which it was

 

i bet allmotor would have beaten him.

don't be ashamed...i used to do that all the time...now I just beat them ...it's always funny to see a Viper owner's face when he gets beat by a mustang

The Viper driver most likely wasn't racing in this case. If Allmotor caught the Viper driver sleeping like Allout did he would take him. But if the driver knew it was a race.....sorry to say that even allmotor would likely not have a chance.

 

i dunno about that..from a roll i would not be surprised if allmotor wins...dunno about off the line due to traction problems

 

depends on what kind of viper. he would have a shot against a stock older one, but i think an srt 10 would put the hurt on him.

from a dig it would be ugly for the cl-s.

 

i would have to go with the viper...a 2000 GTS can do low 12s @ ~120mph in the 1/4 stock.

 

i think allmotor runs that now too with the new turbo...

 

he has a shot, but i dont think anyone knows that for sure until he takes the car down the strip or runs against a viper. we know he's paced a 911TT X50 which trap around 120 as well, but it depends on the driver as well.

 

Definitely. I was dragging a Chevy truck around last night. After I had my fun, I came up on a CHP a quarter mile later.

 

Most of the guys I've been coming up on guys that are not even worth racing. Just my luck I find a guy with 500hp.

I just had an idea for more HP. Maybe I should look into an Intercooler?

 

Be careful there with that statement - that's what alot of the big HP guys are probably saying when they pull up next to us... You don't know until you try it.

 

I was just thumbing through Car and Driver - February. I'm pretty sure it was a Red Viper Coupe. Could have been a SRT-10. According to CD, it does the 1/4 in 12.1 seconds.

From a roll, I think Allmotor would give it a run for the money. I think you're right - from a dig, it would be lights out.

 

That's probably a true statement. I've seen some pretty mean blown civics out there that aren't too pretty.
