Persistent shudder when braking: Acura is stumped

In an attempt to solve a front end shudder when braking from 70 mph, my dealer has:

1.) Resurfaced my old rotors
2.) Replaced the rotors and pads with brand new OEM parts
3.) Replaced/repacked the wheel bearings (thank god for the extended warranty!)

The shudder persists. In addition, there is a slight vibration at high speeds--this has persisted through having my rims straightened and getting new tires (along with a road force balance).

The Acura tech working on the car is stumped (but has declared he will not give up).

I have two (amateur) theories:

1.) build-up of brake pad material on the new rotors
2.) bent axle

Are these reasonable? What other possible causes for braking shudder could there be?

thanks!

or bent suspension control arm. I had that problem, and the dealer changed everything before that. i had the vibration only with acceleration tho.

Bad CV axle or a sticking brake caliper would be my next guess

With the fact that virtually all brake components/tires/wheels replaced, the fact that your still getting a shudder most definately points to suspension next. Bent axle, bent control arm, bad ball joint, or loose steering stabilizer... could be anything, but I'm suprised at how incompetent Acura techs seem to be diagnosing such simple issues.

I had a shudder on mine when accelerating and decelerating and I was advised that it was an issue with my front motor mount being broken.

My CL would shudder pretty bad on the freeway when I had to brake....so are you positive you don't have any motor mount issues?

Just my

Thanks for all the input. I will definitely ask the Acura technician about those things.

I am not sure about the motor mounts, but the vibration does not correlate to RPMs, so I doubt that's the issue.

On the upside, the car's under warranty, so I get a free loaner while it's in the shop: 08 TL (which is a bit heavy for my taste, but a great highway cruiser).

cheers,

How about the brake proportioning valve? Or the ABS causing the problem?

Somrthing you should really look into. Your Acura Tech should know that. Who knows maybe he checked it. I'd bring it up to him.
