Parking brake oddities
Parking brake oddities
Has anyone had this happen?
I disengage the parking brake and do my driving, no parking brake light is on, car drives like normal.
Sometimes when I park and put the parking brake on again, I Press down, and it goes all the way down through the notches and then it springs right back up again - and i'll have to press down again for it to lock in place.
Is this a normal thing that happens every once and a while? I assume it's just something with springs not catching or something... Or should is it advisable to have my dealer check it out?

I've found that you have to push it with one solid push and a quick release. Otherwise it will sometimes release right away. Also, if you push really hard and bottom it out, it will release instead of locking.
Not to hijack the thread or anything, but while we're on the topic of parking brakes... is there a particular reason/benefit for having a foot brake? I know I've read people posting that it wouldn't be good to have if you really needed to use it, like in a possible car accident, but is it better to have a hand brake? Just wondering because the only other time I remember even seeing a foot brake was in a minivan.
The only time my parking brake has popped back up was due to operator error. If you hesitate at the bottom you can accidentally release it. If yours is going all the way past the notches then releasing you may have a problem.
A hand brake is nice to have with a stick since it makes it easy to startup on a hill. Some people also like to lockup the rear wheels with it so they can slide. Other than that, I don't see any difference between a hand and foot parking brake.

My dealer said it's "normal." That's bullshit as every loaner I've had is either a TLP, or CLP and they're right on the money.
No wonder I don't give the stupid bastards any business......

i've had this happen about 5-6 times in 20 months, so it's nothing major. i think if you're too quick on it, it'll do that...freaked me out a bit because i thought i forgot to release it before driving, but it hasn't happened lately.
i don't think it's a big problem unless it happens all the time.
