Zero, I don't think this post was aimed at you. You have been a solid contributor here before and since I came here.

I agree with Shawn and posted a similar post over a week ago. I think the real source of irritation for us is the constant reminder that people are jumping off the CL-S boat because the car has some problems. I am grateful for the knowledge ahead of time, but it sucks at the same time and the constant reminder makes it worse.

Anyway - As car values go down, younger and sometimes more immature young adults can affords such cars as the CL-S, perhaps this is why there is a degradation. - and the quality of the content may slip a little - its to be expected

I'm sorry if some of these post on this thread are less mature than others, but I don't think Shawn's point was not any Nissan/Infinity bashing. He was just making a point.

I have to admit, I myself falls into the same catagory of guys who will always think "grass is greener on the other side". So I do admire the people who traded their car for the G35C or the 350Z, (trust me, I test drove them both myself), but at the end of day, I look at my CL and I realize that my love for it is still there, and I know my car gets just as much looks as the 350Z and the G's.

Again, please don't hate all CL owners, I think you have great stuff to say about all cars, and you are the type of car "enthusist" I love to get opinion from.

Damn, y'all!! I really haven't inferred the level of bashing from the Z/G crowd that some of y'all are implying. I'm jealous as hell of the people who can afford to get one because they don't feel safe with the tranny issues. If I could, I would look for something, too. Perhaps, I'd end up with a 6-speed CL-S...who knows?!? I never even thought about modding my CL-S when I bought it, but now I'm addicted to it. If I had a 6-speed, I'd be even happier about modding it, because it would be a little quicker. I still love my CL-S, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to love it. We have different priorities, I hope. Otherwise, it would be damn boring. I like to read/hear reasonably intelligent discussions about most any car. Shit, I'm always bragging about the Supras my friends have.

I'll assume everyone here has always owned/driven Acuras, has been with the same company since the beginning of his working life, and has been with the same girl/woman, too.

I agree with Shawn in general, not word for word. This is Car Talk so you would expect a degree of talk of not just CLs but other cars also, but on the same note it is acura-cl.com so it is not nice to constant bash on the CL **cough, cough torqueaholic**. A true car afficionado should be able to find things that he or she likes of other cars besides what he or she dislikes. It's not fair to bash the CL when compared up to the newer cars, as Jimcol mentioned, new cars are always being developed. That's like comparing the Legend to the CL...the Legend is a very, very nice car, but it lacks new things such as HIDs, VTEC, and a few other stuff, but it's still a very, very nice car.

Also I would like to take some time out and say, I am shocked, but Jimcol actually does have something revelant and profound to say every once in awhile

I haven't seen a lot of CL bashing even though there are a lot of people jumping ship for something else. That's understandable - you can't expect people to stick with one car for the rest of their lives.

In fact, it's a good thing they stay because then you get information on other cars through these guys and you trust them because they've been here a while and you know them.

I am not too happy with all the other car posts, but I just skip over them.... I get mad at times too because there are 4 or 5 of them open at one time.. But it is just like the newbie who jumps online and asks the same (headers,springs, exhaust) questions that have been discussed hundreds of times without doing a search first...

Just how I feel... and believe me it is not going to change anything if I complain about it...

The reason that YOU don't go around the Infiniti forums saying how much you dislike the interior of the G35 is because you don't own a G35 or plan to own a G35.

See the point? Guys that own a G35 (and never owned or even thought about owning a CL) don't come here and bash the CL. For the most part, it seems a lot of former CL owners are buying G35 or 350z's.

If someone has owned an CL in the past and then buys a different car (any different car), then they should be welcome to state their opinions comparing their old CL and their new whatevermobile.....

Fact of the matter is that the G35 Coupe is just a better all around car than the CL-S. Most people would agree with that. Not ALL people, but MOST people.

You sound like you might be a little jealous of the people who jumped to the G35. Maybe you should have waited instead of getting that 6 speed CL-S.

And no matter what you say about the interior of the G35, it's nowhere near 80's style. If anything, it's a higher tech look than the CL. Although I'll admit that the CL interior is more pleasing to look at. But like I said before- who gives a fuck? When I'm in my car, I spend 99% of the time looking out the windshield.....not admiring my pretty interior

Better car in some respects particularly when it comes to the chassis, drivetrain layout and exterior shape. Which for many those are the main (and in many cases the only) aspects. But the engine is debatable as both have very fine properties. I find the shifter in the CL-S6 better. Add to that the interior volume and cargo room. So I guess it depends on the individual’s needs and desires. Which is why there are choices and I am glad to see such options as the G35C

I don't find the G35's interior to be higher tech; to most I know it is a step backwards. The hard edges with highly visible seems along with the flat brushed surfaces do look reminiscent of the mid 80's 300Z. The CL has a conservative yet (in your words) pleasing look and feel. It is not over the top in style but is great to be in.

The CL is dead. Let's see if Infiniti is selling the G35 Coupe 3 years from now.

Your a diehard CL fan and I kinda see where you are coming from but if your a car fan, and you like to compare your cars to others (you do not have the best car in the world but you know that.)

It's kind of selfish to think that this board is going to revolve solely around a discontinued car, this board will be extinct if the majority of the membership collectively went thier own way to their new car board.

The bottom line is that this board rocks, it is probably one of the best forums I have ever been on ever. People flock and stay here because of the people, the mods, the topics etc. This board would be FLAT OUT BORING if there were no hot topics to argue over or maybe that's how you want it.

You don't see me running over to club DSM/Mitsubishi forum and talking about how I upgraded to a CL-S... In my mind it just doesn't make sense to do that... Those guys know me well over there, I am friends with alot of them just like I made friends here. No one should have to go anywhere. I bust on the Z alot (ask Zeroday, he's 5 minutes away from meeting me in a dark parking lot w/ some knives) but it's all good.

Like eclipse said- if everyone here only posted on forums dedicated to their cars, this place will be just Shawn all alone in a few years.

He should be happy that there's still a lot of traffic here, because in time, the members/posts will drop. There's no denying that.

 

I think the Slush-Box debacle and the popularity of the TL Type-S killed the CL, not poor design.
The TL was always a big seller and when they gave it the 260HP engine it started the downfall of CL sales.
If Acura made the 6-Speed CL-S available in 2001 it would probably still be selling great.

I'm going to debadge the G35 when I get it and put an A symbol and a TypeS badge on the right rear corner of the trunk. That way, I can tell people it's the new Acura CL Type S!!!
