Old Idea Revisited
i was thinking of how i can get a better air/fuel mixture, and the only answer i can really think of is replace the splash guard with that gutter guard stuff from Home Depot/Lowe's...let's assume for a moment that the difference is big (not likely, but just go with it)...will i b putting my filter in jeopardy since now i have a wide open space for road debris, rocks, water, salt, and sand to get in there??? the web design of the gutter guard can protect the filter only so well.
as an alternative, what if i "carve" out small holes in the splash guard itself??? sortof like drill dime-sized holes in a few different spots all over the guard???
i appreciate yer input!!

Well you would be exposing the filter to all kinds of water and dirt when it rains. Probably still won't be a problem but you'll definitely be cleaning/replacing the filter much more often. I've thought about removing my driver side fog lamp housing if I feel like racing around. The filter sets right behind it and makes for a direct air flow. Might make a little difference on warm nights but not much else.
