ok... I took out the oil...but which way does the damn oil filter twist to take it off... I'm asking to make sure I'm doing it right cause the damn thing isnt coming off.... help me please..


btw... do yall change the filter everytime you change the oil or every other time?

cause I know some filters last more miles than other... I'm using a Mobile1 filter

 

Counter-clockwise to remove. I always change the filter on an oil change. Makes no sense to blend old oil with fresh oil.

u may be having trouble getting it off due to lack of grip. try using an oil filter wrench. they always work for me.

 

Mobil1 EP or Amsoil are the top of the line oil filters on the market.
Honda filter is about average.

 

well i couldnt get it off... so I just poured in the new oil... I'll use the filter for another 2500 miles... so a total of 5000 miles... it should be fine its a mobile1

where can I get a oil filter wrrench from? any idea what to do inorder not to have the thing on there soo tight..

 

Any auto parts store. Autozone, Pepboys, Kragen, Napa...

 

i went and got fram 3593a and it didnt fit, the stock one was ALOT smaller, and so now, i cannot find which one fits my car, so i only changed the oil cuz i had drained the oil, before taking the filter out, my mistake.

If you take it to a shop to have the oil changed they'll jam that thing on super tight (or half loose, no in-between!). In fact, the first car I ever owned had a filter which had vulcanized (if that's the right term) itself onto the flange. Wrench adapter simply sheared off the housing of the filter when I tried to turn it. Finally got it off with some MacGyver thinking, but it was a pain.

When you put a new one on, moisten the rubber seal with a little of the old oil. Spin it until you feel it snug up, then another 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Just don't keep tightening until it won't go any further!

 

Easiest way to get the filter off is to jam a long screwdriver through both sides of the filter then twist.

 

Yep. I've done this once before on my friends TL-P. The thing was put on so tight that it was just crumbling when I tried using a oil filter wrench. So we jammed a screw driver through and twisted.

 

That's basically what sheared off the housing of the filter for me! I can't recall what the tool was we ended up using (it was 17 years ago), but it fit into the holes in the solid metal at the top and we were able to finally break it that way...

That's pretty much what I used to do on every oil change before I stopped changing it myself (pretty much since I bought the CL). Before I did that though, I would use a little poker tool to poke a hole in the center of the bottom of the filter and let all the oil drain out of it. This keep the oil from pouring all over you when you take off the filter. Then I would take my poker tool, jam it into the side of the filter and turn. Always came right off.

 

I use Either K&N or Mobil 1.

From all the filter reviews i have seen, Mobil 1 is one of the best. Slightly over K&N, but at that point, just use either.

 

I haven't seen much mention on this forum about the Japanese Honda HAMP filter. It is designed by Honda Japan for after-market use (as opposed to OE). They designed it with the type-R and type-S engines in mind, but it works on all Hondas and Acuras.

I've been using it for about 10,000 miles--having switched to it from Mobil-1 filters.

It is hard to get here in the US but is generally recognized as being much better than the OE Honda US and Honda Canada oil filters.

the issue here is what type of oil is used,, if you use synthetic, use a filter that is designed for synthetic,, by the pictures the Hamp filter media looks like it's for petro oil. labs will have to test/ compare these various filters

 

Yeah, i have herad about HAMP. They are to be pretty good if not even with OEM. Back when they first started to be imported here, the problem is the availability. If you did find them, you typically pay that extra $$ for "jdm" and some places make you purchase 10+ quantity.

They are around more now as you noted on those sites, however with shipping your still paying $5+ per filter. Doing a bulk oder might help offset that and save you time as well.

When you already know your using one of the best filters, its not really worth the time/money. The main thing for me is availabilty. I like the fact i can go to autozone and pic oil/filter, etc up at one stop.

The best OEM filter you can get is the S2000 Toyo Roki (15400-PCX-0400) and it fits most honda/acuras 4 cyls only. I used this on my H22A Prelude because it was just as good and 1/2 the price of the two afore mentioned (nevermind 2 mins from my house).
