First off, I have no doubt that comptech product is of high quailty.. but I have to make a comment here...

Workers in Taiwan do not make a few dollars a day. Standard of living is Taiwan is just as high if not higher in many cases when compared to any major city of the US. As for raw material, that's got NOTHING to do with what country we are in... it's what the manufacturer chooses to use.

I get really tired of seeing how Made in Taiwan = crap and Made in USA = great. Just as with products made in the US, some are great some are not. It's ironic, but the server that this forum is running on more than likely has a mother board made in Taiwan... the computer most of us are on have a motherboard made in Taiwan.

Plus, even if it was cheaper to make it in Taiwan, which I don't doubt, don't forget about shipping.

Let's face it.. and be honest: Comptech is a well respected brand, and as such they can command a premium on their product. If you come out and say "our products have been extensively researched and dyno tested as well as track tested, thus the higher cost in final price due to more expensive R&D" etc etc, I'd be inclined to say "yup, that's right". But if the first defense you have is because stuff made in Taiwan is "junk"... sorry Comptech, that very narrow minded, VERY narrow minded...

Here's a little education for those of you who don't understand why seemingly similar products have different prices.

First, Comptech products are made here in California by Americans. Our welders are THE BEST that there are and they come with a premium price tag. Our products are not made in Mexico or Tiawan where workers earn just a few dollars a day.

We use US made stainless steel because it is a superior raw material to the junk made in Taiwan.

Our products are sold primarily thru a network of dealers and distributors. Each of those companies needs to make a profit in order to stay in business.

It costs us more to build our header than the dirtbags at OBX sell theirs for. Yes, companies that do nothing but copy other companies products are DIRTBAGS! OBX couldn't design and develop a quality performance part if their life depended on it!

Keep these things in mind the next time you or a friend gets downsized out of a job because the company you worked for lost market share to cheap imitations from Taiwan. You do get what you pay for.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Just for clarification,

The controversial post by ComptechMike on page 4 does not reflect an "official" opinion from Comptech USA's employees and owners.

there's a lot in a name... and quality is generally associated with products that do have great names... like comptech, you can't tell me people have had very many, if any, problems with their performace products :P

i think it's a little bit of insurance for really only a couple of hundred dollars...

i dig quality and major names/brands :/
