Nitrous Worries Concerning Custom Audio???
Nitrous Worries Concerning Custom Audio???
Well, here is the story:
Since my Acura warranty is almost over, I purchased an extended warranty from my credit union. With this warranty I can take my car to ANY mechanic for work, and since my buddies own a shop, they are going to be doing all my work. Since I no longer have to worry about Acura refusing service because of modifications, I am installing a nitrous system (probably ZEX 50-75 shot), in about 5K miles.
I am also having a custom audio trunk setup put together, consisting of JL-Audio 12w7, full trunk enclosure, and some other little toys. As part of the custom enclosure, I am also building a space for the nitrous bottle, which will keep it hidden.
After speaking to a custom install specialist, he brought up some issues that have me a little worried. He said that since the 12w7 is EXTREMELY powerful, I sould be careful with the nitrous bottle, since it is already under a lot of pressure. He suggested that I build some kind of "oil-bath" for the bottle, so that the pressure emitted for the subwoofer doesn't affect the bottle, which is already under pressure......but this option is very expensive.
So my question is: What are your guys ideas on my situation? Do you think that the pressure from the subwoofer might affect the pressure of the bottle? Has anybody had a similar situation?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

the bottle is made of steel (I think) and so the exterior pressure of the sound most likely won't affect bottle pressure especially considering it goes up to about 900 PSI at perfect temperature control. Bottles like that can take much more pressure for example scuba divers definitely handle more pressure than your system can create in your trunk.

If you have any concerns getting nitrous, then don't get it...
Either you get it or you don't. You aren't putting and subs in a nitrous tank anyway..
Those warrantys work good. But if your tranny goes they will send an inspector to verify the work that needs to be done. (if the labor is > x, whatever X is for your compnay I don't know) I had the same thing with my Grand Cherokee. I blew the transfer case. And I had to wait a day or so for the claim inspector to verify what needed replacement.
So make sure you still hide your nitrous, or have the shop do it.

People... the pressure created from soundwaves by a subwoofer is going to do nothing to a NOS bottle!!
You can still put your ear next to a pounding woofer and yes.. you might go deaf in a while, but its not going to do anything immediateley.
Now... go direct 100psi worth of pressure (that's near 7 ATM!) on that same ear... it should come out the other side!
The NOS bottle is rated for nearly 1500psi (safeguard for hot temps). It has the usual 1 ATM (standard atmospheric pressure) on the outside at sea-level. Nothing's going to happen until there is greater than 2-3 times the 1500psi on the outside... in which case nothing will still happen unless you have metal fatigue.. etc.
I wouldn't worry about a woofer creating 'gyrations' to a NOS bottle!!!
