Newbie to the fourm.

Hi guys and gals I just signed on today and needed some help with choosing the

right type of transmission for my soon to be here cl-type s. I wanted to know if

the less traffic friendly 6-speed was worth the extra power gains over the

automatic. You might have discussed this already if you have please direct me to

the thread.

thanks

The Auto vs. 6spd issue has been discussed at length, but all I needed to know before making my decision was that there was a forum here dedicated to just auto tranny problems.

My last car (94 Ford T-Bird) had started to develop auto tranny issues at 130K miles, so I didn't want to have to deal with that stuff on a new car.

If Acura didn't offer the 2003 CLS with a 6psd, I'd be driving something else now.

It's all personal preference. I drive the 01 5AT because I'd rather have an automatic, unless I'm driving a pure sports car. And I've never had a problem with my tranny. The tranny issue is definitely somehting you should inquire about though, if you do decide on the automatic.

Using the search function will lead you to a lot of threads where this AT vs. MT question has been discussed.

There are some days where I wish I'd had bought an automatic, but my CLS is my sportscar, so it's gotta be a manual. If I had a Porsche (with a manual) in the garage, I'd probably want my daily driver to have a auto for my daily commute thru stop and go traffic.

It's really a personal choice like ccannizz11 said... Chaptorial loves his automatic CLS, and his is supercharged too

there's no comparison: the 6 spd is the better transmission. I have the POS AT but it was the only tranny available when I bought the thing. Buy the 6.

Thanks for the greetings. I just contacted import performance transmission (ipt)

and they have kits for the cl 3.2, so I will proably stick with the five speed and get

it rebuilt to handle the power. I wanted to know to If insurance is really killer on

the cl type s. I going to pay what ever it takes to get one, just need a ballpark

figure for a 20 year old. Oh yeah My grandparents said if I do good in school they

will fix up my car any way I want it. So look out I'll be tearing you guys apart

before to long.

Insurance will depend where you're located. I only pay $550 every 6 months, but that's because I'm 25 and have a good record. So your grandparents are going to drop around $10k into your car for you?

I would go with the 6MT has well.

Welcome to the board.

im new here too. but i have alot of experience wihth this issue (and most all car related issues for that matter.)

if your questioning your ability to cope with a manual..... get the auto.

there was no question in my mind that i needed the 6 speed.. and i drive in hollywood traffic too and from work everyday!

Welcome to the board... My car is an 01 with 50K on it... I have gone through two trannys... If acura had a 01, i would have definitely gone with the 6spd... If you are worried about the stick shift, after a few runs you will get the hang of it.. If I had to purchase today, it would definitely be a six speed....

Edit: Navi wouldn't hurt either
