but if you live in rainy areas that flood frequently like seattle or some other place, get icebox, just not as notable soundwise.

i love my aem cai. best and cheapest mod ever for the CL, and most cars, except for wrx's and sti's.

SEARCH.........

...then realize the Icebox is better than the AEM.... less sucking intake noise, not as loud at WOT, and more horsepower.

I was wanting to know the same thing and saved a few minutes by reading this post instead of doing a search. Thanks aspar for posting the question.

using common sense (i.e. not driving into 1 foot+ deep water), you should be fine with the AEM. it was my first mod and I've never had a problem with it.

i have an icebox and like it, sounds good. gains are about the same i think
but whatever. the installation requires you to take off the bumper though.

Sounds like a unecissary pain in the arse. I'm going with good ol' AEM. All typical CAI's look better than the icebox too. Another plus for the AEM.

you don't have to take off the bumper to install either one.

Thank tou

Thanks aspar for the post. I wanted to know the same info, and guys it takes more typing to give your lecture about the search than to help people. Thats what forums are for to help each other out. We know you know more than us about this car that is why we ask.

There's also the Injen CAI, so far no one's had a problem with those. I hear they're louder below and at WOT.

My AEM however, cracked at the welds from cold and WOT vibration.

my car had seen some cold weather. not sure what time of year it was when they broke.

they both broke at the mounting bracket, where the pipe bolts to the engine compartment.

My AEM broke at the same spot, not a pretty sight. I guess duct tape'll help seal the hole 'til I get enough money saved for Injen.

welcome to AZ.com guys...

when looking about and listening here, it sounds like a fairly common problem...anyone know if the Injen has similar cracks...I'm wanting to put on an intake pretty soon myself...

Because of my axels breaking and engine torque, my bracket broke too causing the pipe to crack as it goes down towards the filter. I had to buy a knew one. i hope it doesn't happen again
