New Tranny. Now What?

I just got my tranny replaced at Fresno Acura this week. It started to slip at around 80K miles and I drove on it for about a month before I took the car in. I took the car in on Wednesday morning and they were done by Thursday afternoon. They were really cool. Fresno Acura rocks!!! Only down side is I couldn't get a TSX as a loaner because I was under 25. Oh well, I got a Dodge Intrepid....

Anyways, now that I have a new tranny (I mean a reconditioned one) what are some things I can do to keep the tranny in good condition?

By the way, when I first put the car into drive, I heard this really loud click/knock sound. But have not heard it since. Any clues as to what that is?

Tranny cooler and synthetic tranny fluid (Amsoil has one that will work in Honda/Acura products) and I'd limit use of the slapstick left side of the shifter gate. Also, I wouldn't hold third gear (right side of the gate) or hit the rev-limiter ever....this sends shock waves thru the entire driveline that are stressfull. Just my 2CW.

Even if you decide to take it back to the dealer, if you can't reproduce the sound they probably can't do anything.

so in other words, drive the car like a girl? I just got a remanufactured one myself, and my game plan is: a tranny cooler + a yearly tranny flush(drain & fill +drive X3). The whole amsoil thing is unproven. Its risky to go with a fluid with different lubricative properties, than honda atf. The remanufactured ones aren't failing to my knowledge.

Honda Z-1 isn't magic fluid. The lubricative properties are defined in the Z-1 specs so when Amsoil states they meet Z-1 specs, there should not be a problem. We've got around 70K miles on the TL-P using Amsoil and a cooler and I put around 35K on a 2003 TL-S using Amsoil and a cooler and had no problems or issues.

BTW - Comptech drops Redline Synthetic ATF into their SC'ed autos and have not had any reports of problems related to the fluid.

I have been hearing from the Acura mechanics that I know that within the last year, they have not been seeing nearly as many 2nd and beyond visitors for trans repairs so it could be that they have made sufficient progress in the reman dept. Also they have had better luck with the V6 6th gen accords according to my Honda dealer's trans mechanic.........

I hope the tranny doesn't fail, but if it does, I'm still covered up until my car hits 100K or 2008. I'm at 81K right now. So
