New CL owner....

Hello guys!

I just purchased a silver 2001 Acura CL and I am in love. I have a few questions and I was unable to find the answer from searching here.

What is the difference between the CL and CLS. From what I have read its got ~40 more HP and a stiffer suspension? is it hard to convert a CL to CLS?

Also I am tryin to find the best size rims / tires for my CL. I would prefer not to lower it but if it will help it look nicer and lessen the gap between the tires / wall I might. What rims do you guys suggestion that arent BLING but look clean and nice. I like how these look
http://myspace-487.vo.llnwd.net/0011...18134487_l.jpg

if you wanna post pics of your car with its rims that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

you can try to do this all you want but it's not quite the same. you can even SC the CL-Pee if you want. but i'm pretty sure a type S with mods is funner when on the open road and VTEC engages.

the cls has 260 hp, the cl (cl-p) has 225.. u cant really convert it because of the v-tec in the cl-s engine versus the vlep in the cl-p engine, but you can modify a couple of things with yours to get it close.. regardless, you have a great car, congrats!! Ive had my 01 cl-s about a month and a half and i still get wood everytime i come out of a store and see her sitting in the parkin lot lookin all sexy and shit.. welcome to the forum.. There is a great wealth of knowledge and some nice people willing to help you out if needed.. at least thats what i have learned since joining..

oh yeah, in response to the rims question, goto discounttirerack.com, they have a program that lets you see what different styles of rims look like on your car, and they only show you what fits your specific car.. good luck..

Oh, and if you want to be the smartest noob on here, make sure you learn how to use the search feature.

Read up on the posts in the FAQ Forum and read ChodTheWacko's Acura CL FAQ page.

And it is possible to convert a CL to a CL Type S for the most part, but it wouldn't be cheap. You would need the heads and cams from a Type-S and the upper intake manifold and throttle bodyfrom the Type-S.
This would be very good for boost(turbo/supercharge) actually since you would have the freer flowing top end of the type-s, but the lower compression to allow you to run more boost.
This is just talking engine wise. There are a lot more differences, but some of those would be replaced anyway by the same part for either car, i.e. exhaust and springs/shocks are what come to mind.

ok it doesnt seem like it would be worth it. Speed is not much a concern with my car and it is already pretty quick. Hmm now to decide what tint level. I was thinking 20 or 25% all the way around since the rear windows are so small I dont think it would look as nice with darker in the back.

Welcome. I don't know if it's worth trying to convert a CL to a type S. If you like the one you have, you can always upgrade with some modding. Headers, intake, pulleys etc. Do a search, there are a ton of information on here.

small world man! How much did you lower your Type S? I am thinking about lowering mine as well. Any other parts you have besides the rims and the bar?

I sold my coilovers awhile back. The car is currently in stock form. The bar I give to you if you buy the rims. Moving to Oregon soon let me know if you want them.

I do have some SS brake lines if you are interested. Never had a chance to install it.

If your not worried about speed, why would you even ask how to convert your CL to a CLS

Maybe because the Type S has many more features then the none Type S. Gosh could that be it? This is a tough one.....What do you think?

Feature wise, no.

All the features are exactly the same, except for VSA which is semi-performance related. Everything else is performance, or different color trim and perforated leather.

to shut my friends up about asking me if its a type s. =P

what are the SS brake lines? A few days after I bought my CL the CD player jammed with a ER1 message. I been lazy to take out the deck to try to take apart the CD player to see if I can unjam it. Iono putting a aftermarket deck to me seems like it will cheapen the appearance of the interior. Unless its a 6.5 inch double dinn screen MmmMM i could make that work...
