Navi decoder...

I posted this before but I am not sure if the right people saw it. The AVC-RGB1, from what I can tell is just a composite to RGB converter. What would be wrong with just feeding the Navi screen a RGB signal?

should work -- all you would need is a red, green, blue and composite signal.... should be simple.

I still don't understand how you could convert a screen like that. Are you changing the projection some how?

wait wait wait wait.

if all you gotta do is feed it a composite rgb signal then why the fuck are we wasting our time with the decoder?

every single piece of video playback equipment i own has RGB output. including PS2.

its gotta be harder then that. doesnt it

someone shed some light on this...

Correct me if I'm wrong... but I was under the impression the Navi uses RGB while the output of a DVD player is Composite/S-video. I'm under the impression that the DVD Encoder is a bridge between the two?

the Nav system does not use S-Video

no you cannot just tap into the RGB wires going to the nav with RGB wires off your playstation or anything else.

you MUST use some sort of decoder. i'm not sure exactly how it changes things, but you cannot mickey-mouse the wires together

sorry, but it would be nice huh?

this has already been tested by quite a few people too, and it just doesn't work that way

I guess my question is why?

is the RGB on DVD players Component RGB and not the same type of RGB that the Navi takes? Seems like that is the reason why the decoder is needed..

I'm betting the RGB is like the RGB computer monitors and not like the type that is used in AV equipment..

RGB is not what the DVD players output, they output in component video. Yes the wire are red blue and green, but the output is not the same. Computers output in RGB+H+V, it is the 3 colors plus signals that give the pixels the coordinates on the screen.

my apex, mp3/dvd player has RCA/RGB.

the reason is probably because RGB color needs some kind of mixing (decoding) done before it can display it right

Cool, thanks jaysco, you are right. I totally forgot about H+V.

Its not just RGB (3 wires)

Its RGB and Sync on our navi.

Most RGB are include a Hsync and Vsync. only.

There is a way to convert Hsync and Vsync to Sync (composite sync) but its actually compliated but possible.

In addition I believe not all RGB are 0.7p-p (?).TTL Some are not.

here is Hsync+Vsync to Composite sync if it helps anyone:
