jeopardy reference.

but seriously i bet it's the bulb. really no explanation for the dimness. only other thing that would make the bulb dim would be a voltage drop (not really possible & highly unlikely) or the bulb is burning out.

actually it's not bad. just 2 screws directly above the cluster and the rest just snaps out. you can get your fingers under the piece at the cluster and just starting prying around to the left and then towards the radio controls. be careful because the clips can break.
then you will see 4 screws holding the cluster in. take those out and unplug all the wires out of the back. don't worry cuz the plugs can only go in one location on the back of the cluster so there is no confusion or mixing of wires. then just pull the bulb out of the odometer and check it out.

see the 3 red knob like items at the bottom center. those are the bulb holders for the odometer. ignore my cluster fuck of wires.

view with the white cover removed. still 3 red holders bottom center.

I had a bulb go out in the dash, dealer covered under warranty. One thing they suggest thought, is one you replace one burnt out bulb, replace all of them. Something about how the rest of the bulbs are likely to burn out also.

As long as you're sure you didn't hit the dimmer switch on the dash lights, it's probably just a bulb.

hehe, no i didnt hit the dimmer switch, i was actually messing around with them... but, i do remember the night before, i hit the top of my dash pretty hard because me and the gf were having a fight... so i tried hitting it hard again, but the lights still stayed the same. I felt guilty afterword... my poor car goes through so many things... lol

Probably the shock from hitting the dash cause one of the bulb's filaments to break, resulting in the burned out bulb. It's not very difficult to replace, just don't rush or force anything and you'll be fine. You won't have to disconnect the cluster from the car even. The bulbs are #74, which can be found just about anywhere that sells automotive bulbs.

on a related note... is there any way to fuck up the readout of the tachometer while your in there?? i bought my cl used and the damn thing reads 1500 rpm slower (means redline is 5500) ive gotten used to it but ive noticed a light out under my 9k rpm area so if theres a way to fix both id love to know about it!

Figured I'd mention it... sometimes we luck out and it's something simple...

Looks like you'll be taking your dash apart...

That is odd your tach only goes to 5500rpm. I wonder if you have something else going on you dont know about. If your ECM thinks your car is not moving It will limit the rpm to 5500rpm. I know it does that on the autos if you are not in drive, but you have a 6mt. So do I and I dont ever remember not being able to rev past 5500rpm at any time. That would drive me nuts.
