MPG less than advertised!!!

Hey guys what is up with the MPG of our CLs???
Or it is just mine?
I am getting 17.5 - 17.9 average, and I am not flooring it.
Is somebody having the same problem?

Thanx
ED

It all depends on how you drive. When they do MPG tests they accelerate as slow as possible in the city. Those are usually the highest figures you will see.

Between 18 and 22 is average for me.
I’ve gotten as high as 32.5 on the highway and as low as 14 in the city.

Shawn S is correct. 14-20 in town and 27-31 on the road. That's exceptional for a car with the power and weight of a CL. It's the only car I've ever had that beats government estimates on the road!!!!

MPG

Wow, I must be driving like a little o' granny (not) but I consistantly get 23 mpg in town, 31 to 33 on the hwy. My old 97 2.2 cl would get 26 in town, and only 30-31 on the open ribbon.

At first I was averaging around 25mpg (commute about 75 miles per day, 85% highway). Then it was down to around 22mpg, probably b/c I was driving the car harder after breakin. Then, for my first oil change (around 4000 miles) I put in Mobile1 5w30 Synthetic, and I was still averaging 22. After my last oil change (around 11k) I'm now up to 25.5 mpg..... go figure!! The highest I was was around 29mpg on a trip to Hunter Mtn, but that drive is really only about 70% highway (the other 30% is through towns and up the mountains), so 29mpg isn't bad.....

I know this has come up in other posts, but a lot of us experienced improving gas mileage during the break-in period. I have no idea why this would happen, but if you just got your car and if it has very few miles on it, give it some time and you may see improvements.

To give you an idea, during the first thousand miles on my car I rarely got over 20 mpg. And this was not do to over-driving it because I did a conservative break-in. By about 1500 miles I was getting 23-25 mpg and that has continued. I'm now at about 8000 miles.

I do know that if I get into VTEC range for any extended time during a tank the mileage goes down, but I have not dropped below 20mpg since about 1500 miles.

Of course, if your car is not new, then you can disregard all this nonesense.

Don't forget that the A/C compressor kicks on and off if you have the climate control set to Full Auto. I average around 22 mog, but have gotten as high as 26mpg in the spring when I turn the climate controls off and drive with windows and sunroof open. This is with a mix of stop/go and Highway driving.

I guarantee that the advertised MPG is with the climate control off and under the most optimum conditions.

wierd

hmmm, i dont know about my average mpg, but when i first got my car, the full tank used to get my around 345 miles give or take a couple. Now ive been getting around 300 mpg, and that is with more agressive driving, but do systems make a difference? It seems that right after i got my system my mpg went down. Maybe its just because the bass makes me wanna drive more agressively :P

system = more weight. with more weight, you need more power to go the same speed. and more gas for more power. and btw i only get aprox 300 miles per tank. i rarely drive aggressively too.

I must be lucky!

I just got 25.5 MPG this Monday.

Its' been improving since I purchased, last Sept.

I drive only in SS, and floor it at every freeway onramp!

Not bad for a high output V6 with 260 horses.

Don't think I could ask for more!

As Motor trend observed, 22 MPG to 23 MPG is an average for HW City combined.

With Gas at $1.20 for Premium drive as hard you would love to...
