Motor Mounts

Okay, so I just got a new front motor mount for my '01 type S. Can anyone tell me what the torques are for the mounting bolts and, especially, for the stud on the top of it? I'd like to get it in this weekend.

thanx

I got it through www.acuraautomotiveparts.org It was about $72 plus shipping & handling.
I wouldn't recommend changing your own if you don't have a cherry picker to take the weight of the motor off, otherwise is isn't too bad of a job. It is easy to cross-thread the mounting bolts if you don't get them all started before putting any weight on the mount.

Thanks for the info! I don't have a cherry-picker ...I was planning on using a floor jack and a block of wood to lift the motor.

That was my first thought, but you really need to get under the car to loosen one of the mount bolts and one of the bolts on the bracket that attaches to the motor itself. If the jack is there, it will be hard to crawl under the car. I'm just saying, you can probably do it that way, but plan out the order of steps before you find yourself stuck.

Okay, as if anywone cares, I am really pissed now... The closest Acura dealer is an hour away (welcome to nowhere), so when I developed a clunk out of warranty, I took the car to the Honda dealer. They replaced the rear motor mount, then announced "now that we have fixed that, we realize that the front mount is bad too." I called "bullshit" and replaced the front mount myself. Now, nearly $500 later, the clunk is in NO WAY any different than it was before.... this sux.

The clunk is probably in the CV joint/axle bearings. I have already been thru this stuff once. Now, 40k miles later, I'm going thru it again! ...Too much power and a heavy foot!

You can do the front mount w/ a floor jack just fine. First remove the four bolts that hold the motor mount to the sub-frame. Then remove the 17mm bolt that goes driectly thru the side mount. then remove the 17mm nut on top of the front motor mount. Then jack up the engine and pull out the motor mount. i do it ALL THE TIME. When lowering the engine down on the new mount go slowly and use a long screw driver the line-up the holes. and then just re-install the bolts..

The front mount I replaced was the one near the radiator. It sounds like you're describing the one nearest the wheel.

Here's an update... after a semi-drunken e-mail to the dealer, they called me and had be bring the car back in. They found the radius rods needed re-torqued which completely fixed the problem. They defended replacing the rear mount, but don't have the "bad" part to support it. That also means I don't have the part to prove that it didn't need replaced. They didn't charge me to fix it, but I already paid them over $400 for the mount.

Oh well, at least it is fixed.... now for the transmission recall on my second transmission...

They are a suspension part on each side that connect to the knuckle. It is easies to see if you go to www.acuraautomotivepart.org, go to Acura parts, look up your model then look under "front lower arm". You can see the picture of them. I don't know what the proper torques is, but they didn't seem loose, but tightening them did fix the problem.
