Going to the strip tomorrow, need quick pointers to get good times

^^
I have the 5 a/t. I know the little things like
1-- Take out spare
2-- Let tire pressure out of front tires before running

What else, any special shift patterns, such as let SS mode do the 1-2 shift, then kick it over into regular D5.

any other advice ?

make sure you dont have too much gas....like 1/8th to 1/4 tank

avoid the wet staging area and before you stage power brake your car and let the tires spin for a split second to jar loose any rocks or debris in your tires

wear a helmet..........have friends record your runs.......buy then beer after

93 octane, but at track have 1/8th tank or less, everything out of the car. Front tires try 28, rear 40. Dry, sunny cool weather is best. Leave it in D3 and torque brake to 1800 if you can, then experiment from there. You may want to use SS, or you may want to do a 1-2-3 (do NOT use 4th) shift yourself. If so shift just as the rev limiter is kicking in to maximize our VTEC power. If when leaving the line you get alot of wheelspin, leave by gradually getting into the throttle rather than all at once. You can reduce the front air pressure too, but I would say 25 is the min. as the extra drag must be overcome for 1300 feet. Have climate control OFF and radio OFF. Any Subs OUT. Some guys put a bag of ice on the intake manifold to cool the metal too although I never have. Hope this helps...let us know how you do.

Well I ended up going out there about 1 and the races weren't starting until 2, and I had an engagement to at, at 4:30. The raceway is about 45 mins from my house. So, nothing to show for this day. I was ready too...ah well, maybe another time. You all can continue to post tips and I'm bookmarking this thread for next time.

I'm pretty sure every 100lbs is a tenth of a second .. so a 20lb spare would be .02.

I went lastnight and only got 14.5 .. weather wasnt cooperating, 60deg and more than 80% humid. Next friday its gonna be 26deg at night and dry, I'll see what I get then.

BTW I dont know how hard it is to remove your drivers side roadlamp, but I pop out the plastic thing on my 03 to let air "ram" right into my icebox. helps a little.

Turn the heater on full-blast just before entering the staging lanes and doing your burnout - shut it off just before running.

Ram, you know I actually thought of that, but since I have not seen any mention of it here. Thought maybe this did not apply to the CL, but thanks for answering the questuion for me.

Most tracks only require a helment if you run 13.9 or better. Have fun and don't be nervous.

My best 60' (2.306) came with major clutch modulation. Now, I was on stock tires, so even a nice aftermarket set of tires would help alot. I usually took it to about 2k rpm and quickly let the clutch out and applied the gas. I almost always got a little wheelhop & spin, but it seemed to be better to spin a tiny bit than to bog it. The trick is to not "shock" the tires, but instead apply the throttle smoothly & progressively. It takes some practice to get right, but when you do its easy to repeat. I ran like three 14.5's in a row once I got the hang of it.

With drag radials I am hoping for some mid 2.1 60's and maybe a 14.1-14.2.

Thx, I'll practice that. I tried something similar and I got wheelspin at the highend of 1st gear.

1500rpm basically drop it and apply gas =2.21 stock tires....Fairly sticky track.

I get wheelspin at the highend of 1st in my automatic. Not much you can do about it when you start adding on the horsepower.

I tried that when I went and in my car if I dumped it too low it would bog and kill he run, or if I did it too high it would spin/hop and kill the run. Maybe your track is better than mine, which wouldnt surprise me, but I would say at least some clutch slip is needed to get the best launch, especially on stock tires. If I woulda pulled a 2.21 60' i would have been 14.4's bone stock.

Same here.... It seemed like 1500 was a good inbetween for my car. Next time I go back I'll try to launch higher since I no longer have stock tires.
