motor mount is broken after 1 month

I replaced the front motor mount on my cl-s about a month ago, I put less then 600 miles on the car and today I just found that the motor mount is broken again. I went to acura to see if the part is under warranty and they told me since I installed the part myself it is not under warranty anymore. does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do, I do not want to spend another $300 for a new one and having it break on me again.

300?? the most expensive mount for our car is less than 100. my advice, remove the broken one, fill it with polyurethane, and reinstall. OR buy a new one, and fill it with poly.

front hydraulic mount is 90 i think.

sorry it was $300 CND for the front and 2 tranny mounts, I think the front was about $180-200CND.

I'm surprised they broke at all. What do you think is causing them to break? How do you know if it broke? Symptoms?

Just curious.

our mounts have a tendency to break.

some symptons are brownish fluid in your engine bay near the mount. this is the hydraulic fluid leaking.

maybe, but chances are the fluid would be all over your engine. it's usually a dead giveaway.

the front mount broke almost for certain because the side mount was broken first ...and now after replacing it but not the broken side mount it broke again. rusty looking stains inside the engine bay near the cruise controler accross from the PS pump is the first sign ...here is a pic of a broken side mount

I can't see this pic at work....it wont' let me link to the site. Can someone post it at an attachment?

I think my mount is bad....noticed some brown spots on the garage floor this morning, somewhere behind the passenger side headlight. Looked in the engine and looks like some sort of brown liquid dried up.

Well, dealer just called and said they can't find any evidence of anything leaking around that area. I have spots on my garage floor that look brown....and where the side motor mount is in the engine, there is dried brown spots that showed it looked like something leaked. They didn't see anything leaking....but my thought is that the fluid in the motor mount has probably already leaked out.

The dealer is basically telling me that the spots on my garage floor have to be from something else. I know it's not the case because this is a brand new house and nothing has ever been parked on that side of the garage except my car.

Well, looks like they will probably lose my business.....I need to find another dealer to take my car to, I guess.

Just curious... how do you know your motor mount is broken? Did you actually rev the engine while watching your motor for movement? I know when mine was busted, my motor would kind of roll back about 3-4 inches when revving. After I replaced it with a new one, it barely moved at all.

Also, you could just have bad luck and got a bad motor mount from Acura. Sometimes it's the price you pay for DIY.

Oh and I've heard from many mechanics that our motor mounts can break really easily. Our engine is just too much of a monster I guess .

Fill the old one with Window Weld. I just got a busted front one from my dealer and did that. Just waiting on the others so I can replace all of mine.

Well, I guess I don't really know 100% if it's the motor mount....engine still looks solid though. The front motor mount looks okay....just from reading the threads and seeing the liquid/stains that is all over in that area. Would it be possible for that side mount to be cracked and the engine not move all that much?

I'm assuming the side mount may have just cracked and all the hydraulic fluid leaked. No more leaking not (I assume there's nothing left to leak). Not sure what else could have leaked in that area....but something did leak. In assuming it's a cracked mount, it would explain that it leaked and has stopped leaking.

BTW, this is still the stock mount and it's never been touched.

If anyone has any other ideas what would have brownish liquid in that area behind the passenger headlight, I'd appreciate it.

it is the motormount your dealer/tech proablly doesnt even know that the lower section of the motormount is hydraulic filled...i would say chances are most people on this board have this and dont even know it...an it will contribute to the front and ultimately the rear motor mount tearing as well...most if not all dealers have internet access...go back show them this link...show them my picture and ask them to pull your side mount to examine it.you'd be suprised how many dealers have been shown the video of the IMRC in opperation when the car is in park many people also have this fail only to have the dealer say things like doesnt work in park/neutral...load sensitve which is all crap ...or find another dealer

IMO... the hardest mount to replace is the front. Go to Acura (cause that's the only place you can buy it), get all 4 mounts and replace them yourself. You'll be glad you did (if the problem is your mounts).

i'm gonna let another dealer look at it and hopefully they can take another look at it. hopefully this first dealer didn't wipe all the leakage off the engine.

damn, i didn't know this. when Acura recently replaced my tranny, they said i had to replace the front mount. i never saw any what you described above so i guess they just had to pin something in there to make some easy monry off of me.

When they replaced my tranny, they also replaced the broken mounts (no charge). I don't think you should have to pay since it was probably the bucking of the defective tranny that broke them.
