I went to PepBoys, and found two versions of M1-104 oil filter, one is regular Mobil 1 oil fileter,and the other one (black) M1 Extended Performance.
the price is the same, I wonder if those filters are the same... just a different packaging....

 

The extended-performance filter is their latest one. The "regular" M1 filter has been discontinued for months now, so what you're seeing is old stock you ought to avoid.

The new extended-performance filter has been significantly improved over the previous one to maintain the same high-efficiency during a longer service interval. Capacity has also been improved.

 

Yeah, cool. I got one. Now I can safely run 7,000 miles on it.
I use Mobil 1 oil and M1 oil filter, and change oil every 6K miles. I think now I can push it to 7K miles (or 1yr). Because thats how many miles I put in one year...

I think you have old info on High Efficency oil filter.
Mobil1 extended performance filter multi-pass is 99.2%.

If we don't consider prices and assume that Amsoil don't lie on their numbers,
I agree that Amsoil products are better than Mobil1.
But considering the cost (plus shipping), to me its not worth the money...

When I see Amsoil being used in "Original Factory Fill" for Corvette and Mercedes, then I will consider it. But for now, I'll stick with Mobil1 :-)

 

I would also keep it for 10K miles, but I drive only 7K miles a year, and don't want to keep the same oil longer than 1 year.

 

Amsoil's filter does have the industry leading media and design for the best compromise of both capacity and efficiency over a long drain interval. The limited results I've seen have shown the filter to be excellent.

However, the differences between the Amsoil and Mobil 1 EP filters are minimal at best, especially for the shorter drain intervals. If you're after the best, then the Amsoil filter is the way to go for 30% more.

 

don't forget the shipping costs....
Amsoil does not make too much sense if you put low miles and have to change your oil once a year.

I will research this some more,, Amsoil filters wholesale (for me) are about 12.50,, retail for about $15,,

How much are the Mobil1 ?? I use the best I can find,, I drive 25k miles per year..

Also comrad the oil doesn't go bad after a year (synthetic) just the filter,, it is easier just to change everything at once.

 

M1 Extended Performance filter is $11, and I can get it from PepBoys or Autozone, but with Amsoil I need to find a local dealer to buy it for $15, otherwise I have to pay for shipping.

Going beyond one year on the same oil is pushing (even synthetics).... some study said it starts to accumulate moisture and etc. Especially if you make a lot of short trips and live in a crazzy north east climate... Perhaps if you drive 1000 miles a year or less, keep your car in a garage all the times, and live in California... then it migth be OK to go beyond 1 year on the same oil.


Even Amsoil warranties their oil for 25K miles/ 1 year, the same for Mobil1 extended performance oil: 15K miles / 1 yr .

 

YEP my bad,,, I was wrapped up in filter tech,, 1 year it is,, mosture is the evil element for both filter and oil,, I'll bet someone has compared the new mobil1 filter and amsoil EA0,, searching on bobistheoilguy.com just haven't found it
